File comprises Dorothy and John Dobson's research records and notes about the O'Briens, a family of Nova Scotia master mariners. There are also photographs of the schooner Lilian E. Kerr.
Fonds consists of correspondence with friends and politicians, newspaper clippings regarding the Nova Scotia Centre of the Poetry Society, Canadian Authors Association, Nova Scotia Museum of Fine Art, Prince Edward Island Art Society and the writer Kay Hill. The fonds also contains records related to The Nova Scotia Centre of the Poetry Society, including correspondence, poems, and copies of the society’s constitution and by-laws.
Fonds includes minutes of meetings, correspondence, financial records, printed scripts, manuscripts of plays, materials pertaining to workshops, newsletters, and publicity records.
File contains 15 drawings of the ceremonial mace designed in 1949 by Chasteney Holbourne Saunders, former head of the Department of Anatomy. The mace was carved in oak, decorated with silver and enamel, and measured 1.4 metres in length. First used in the 1950 convocation, the mace was retired in 1919 when the university introduced the "New Dawn Staff of Place and Belonging" as its ceremonial object.
There is one full-scale drawing in ink and three reduced reproductions mounted on board. The remainder are rough sketches and detail drawings in pencil of the emblems and figures that Saunders employed to represent maritime traditions and the historical significance of Dalhousie’s service to the Atlantic provinces.
Fonds contains architectural drawings created by Drew Sperry as a student at Nova Scotia Technical College and later as a certified architect. His student work comprises presentation drawings, while the designs for his own home in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and two other residential commissions include both presentation and construction drawings. There are two folders of textual records, which comprise a transcript of an interview with Drew and Sheila Sperry, real estate appraisals of their Dartmouth residence, and early budget breakdowns from Sperry's architectural practice.
Fonds comprises diaries and correspondence written during MacDonald's time in service and include letters to his parents and siblings sent from training camps in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and Aldershot, England, as well as Belgium. Transcriptions of this material were written by Mrs. I.M. Parfitt (Margaret MacDonald's daughter); these are annotated and include notes on the family and draft sections of a family biography. Also included in the fonds are letters from Willie H. Cameron to his cousin, Margaret MacDonald, written in 1918 from Halifax and Camp Bramshott, Surrey.
Item is Duncan MacKay's notebook kept as a student at Dalhousie University in the late 19th century. Notebook includes 1888 student notes on Fresenius quantitative analysis, precipitation and German studies. Notebook also includes 1890 notes regarding his library, recipes, and a record of cheese production.
Collection contains records related to the family lineage of the Ramsey/Ramsay/Maule family, and the Brechin Castle in Angus, Scotland. These lines lead to the George Ramsay, 9th Earl of Dalhousie. The family tree shows the Ramsay/Maule lineage. The seat of the Earl of Dalhousie moved to Brechin castle from Dalhousie castle when Ramsay married Maule. The collection also includes biographies and information on the estates, both reprinted from the internet.
