Oland and Son fonds

The Archives of Oland and Son Limited consists of records created by Oland and Son Limited and its affiliated companies. Some of the companies changed names after Oland and Son sold its brewing assets to John Labatt Limited. Records for these companies are included as well. Records range from 1867 to 1989, but were predominiately created between 1950 and 1971.

The Archives of Oland and Son and Affiliated Companies include a wide variety of materials, including administrative records, financial records, correspondence, photographs, advertising and marketing materials, beer production files, sales records, and legal documents. Administrative records typically include meeting minutes, annual reports, memorandums, surveys, and studies or reports on various aspects of the brewing industry and the breweries operated by Oland and Son. Beer production files typically include brewing books, yeast log books, fermentation schedules, production reports, and other records that document the beer production process. The Archives contains a large amount of correspondence between Oland and Son and its affiliated companies and various businesses, government agencies, associations, and individuals from across the Maritimes and around the world. Financial records typically include financial statements, cost reports, comparative statements, general ledgers, valuations, audit reports, and other records documenting the financial position of the various companies. Extensive advertising and marketing files exist, including advertising contracts and schedules, proofs and sketchs, reports and proposals, and budgets. The Archives also has extensive sales records documenting the sale of beer across the Maritimes, Quebec, and parts of the United States and the Caribbean. The Archives also contains hundreds of photographs and blueprints of the factories, factory equipment, and the Bluenose II.

Oland Family

On the water's edge

File consists of records relating to the exhibition 'On the water's edge', consisting of facsimiles of 17th and 18th century Dutch drawings from the collection of the Teylers Museum, Haarlem. The exhibition was presented at the Dalhousie Art Gallery in April 1971.

Records consist mainly of correspondence between Ernest Smith (Director, Dalhousie Art Gallery) and staff of the Royal Netherlands Embassy, whom the exhibition was circulated through. One additional record consists of a paper outlining the historical background of the Teylers Museum and the collection of drawings.

Once Around — CBC Morningside

File contains manuscript drafts of episodes 1-5 of Once Around, a radio drama series broadcast by CBC Radio in 1983. File also contains outlines, correspondence, notes and a chronology of events outlining the evolution of the project.

One kind of vision : final manuscript and a draft chapter

File consists of the hand-written draft and final version of the chapter "One Kind of Vision" written by Budge Wilson, for the book "Nova Scotia Visions of the Future" by Lesley Choyce. Includes the draft of a letter to Lesley Choyce.

Only the Old and Dying — CBC produced

File contains five annotated manuscript copies of Only the Old and Dying, a radio drama commissioned and broadcast by CBC Radio in 1988. File also contains a story outline, contract, and notes.

Oral History Projects Questionnaire

File contains promotional material for an Oral History Workshop in Halifax hosted by James Morrison on behalf of the Nova Scotia Oral History Association. The File also includes completed copies of an Oral History Projects questionnaire sent to cultural and memory institutions across Atlantic Canada. Oral history, university of Ibadan graduate seminar

File consists of a range of handwritten documents created and compiled by James Morrison in 1972-73 while attending University of Ibadan in Nigeria. The file contains a membership form for the Royal African Society, an outline for Methodology of Oral Tradition for a graduate seminar in history. The file contains correspondence, oral history transcription in the original Hausa, and an "Outline for a General History of a Pre-Colonial State in America".

File includes e-mail correspondence, newspaper clippings, and program material.

Order of Nova Scotia investiture

File contains correspondence regarding Budge Wilson's appointment to the Order of Nova Scotia in 2011. The file also includes a copy of the program, guidelines for the Investiture Ceremony, Peggy MacKinnon's ticket, and the invitation to the ceremony.

File contain materials documenting organizational development at AIDS Nova Scotia.
