Byron Ulric Hatfield Photograph Collection

Collection contains seventy-seven glass plate lantern slides created by Byron Ulric Hatfield in Nova Scotia during the early twentieth century. Hatfield took photographs of coastal landscapes, churches and other buildings, and people working and in social settings. He also photographed published illustrations of Acadian life, including several illustrations of scenes from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's epic poem "Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie." Hatfield developed his own photographs and created "magic lantern" slides to use in an illustrated lecture titled "The Land of Evangeline: The Land of Romance, Legend, and Picturesque Beauty." He gave lectures in various locations throughout the eastern United States.

Fonds consists of records primarily originating from Herbert L. Stewart's work as a philosopher, professor, and political commentator. Series contains materials collected as part of Stewart's LGBT advocacy at St John's United Church in Halifax, and his subsequent involvement with Affirm United, an advocacy organization founded in 1982 that supports LGBTQ members of the United Church of Canada. Stewart was involved in the process of achieving Affirmed status for St John's United Church through the Affirming Ministries Program. Series contains articles, essays, and pamphlets regarding homosexuality and religion; informational documents associated with Affirm United and the Affirmation Congregation Program; manuals and other reference materials relating to the operation of Affirmed congregations; correspondence; issues of Consensus, the Affirm United newsletter; and issues of Open Hands, a journal published by Affirmations: United Methodists for Lesbian/Gay Concerns.

AIDS-Link records

Series contains materials related to AIDS-LINK, a volunteer-based project operated by CARAS to institute interfaith pastoral services for persons living with HIV/AIDS. The project was launched in 1996 and ceased operations in the early 2000s.
