Gay and Lesbian Association [GALA] posters, banners and flags

Series includes posters, banners and flags created or collected by the Gay and Lesbian Association (GALA) for various events. Series is divided into two subseries; one subseries of posters and negatives of posters for events held at Rumours, a bar owned and operated by GALA; and one subseries of banners and flags used during Pride marches, demonstrations, and GALA meetings.

Records of the Canadian Association for Adult Education

Series consists of Janet M. Eaton's materials regarding her professional involvement with the Canadian Association for Adult Education. Series includes correspondence, reports, clippings, conference programmes, meeting minutes, and other textual records.

Interviews and reports on local issues

Series contains audio reels from CKDU radio with interviews and reports conducted by CKDU radio hosts on local issues. Many of the topics are arts- or sports-related.

Theatre of the Ear

Series contains audio reels from the CKDU radio 88.1 program Theatre of the Ear. One of the original shows after CKDU switched to their FM channel, this weekly half-hour radio drama aired radio plays produced with theatre students, as well as shows provided by the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Series consists of records regarding correspondence, proposals for research and reports submitted to companies, research centres and government departments by MacLaren Marex Inc.

Series contains reviews and articles relating to Kerslake’s work and writing. Materials include newspaper clippings, photocopies of reviews from journals or papers, and papers written as class assignments (including an original interview). Material also includes one review and edits written by Kerslake.

Susan Kerslake's published books

Series contains four books published by Susan Kerslake, including Middlewatch, Penumbra, The Book of Fears, and Blind Date. All four are in good condition and are autographed by her.

There stands Dalhousie

Series contains several 16 mm film reels containing a film entitled "There Stands Dalhousie," which premiered at an Alumni Association event in 1976. The film contains video of various Dalhousie buildings and individuals, including David Brown, President Henry Hicks, Wilf Creighton, Miss. Metherall, Murray Rankin, Professor Willis, and C.L. Bennet.

Series contains manuscripts of an essay and book written by Ian McKay.

GayLine recruitment and training materials

Series contains materials used in the recruitment and training of GayLine volunteers. Materials include training session records and schedules; help line manuals and crisis intervention strategies; GayLine pamphlets; volunteer application forms, information sheets, and guidelines; and correspondence relating to volunteers.

GayLine

Oral history

Series consists of seven audio cassettes and textual records. The audio cassettes are oral history field recordings on the Jos Plateau recorded by James Morrison. The textual records are from Atlantic oral history association's conference hosted by James Morrison in Truro.

Set designs

Series contains set designs for Neptune Theatre productions, including original drawings, annotated copies, and some light plot and prop designs.

Administrative records

This series contains documents pertaining to the administrative aspects of the Associated Alumni. Documents include correspondence and questionnaires pertaining to the association's founding as well as drafts of the association's constitution, by-laws, and list of executive committee members.

GayLine reference materials

Series contains reference materials used by volunteers of the GayLine. Series is divided into two subseries.
The first sub-series contains reference and educational materials used by GayLine volunteers covering issues such as homosexuality and coming out, sexual heath and AIDS prevention, alcoholism and substance abuse, abuse in LGBT relationships, parenting, discrimination, legal rights, and women's issues. Materials include pamphlets, flyers, legal briefs and resources, newsletters, essays, and bibliographies.
The second subseries contains reference materials relating to the operations of other helplines, as well as information about LGBT businesses and services, community groups, and events in Halifax, across Canada, and in the United States, Europe, Mexico, and Oceania. Materials include advertisements and press releases, pamphlets, newsletters, flyers, information sheets, and directories.

GayLine

GayLine administrative records

Series contains administrative records for the GayLine, established in 1972. GayLine was renamed to the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Line in 1994. Materials in this series include GayLine monthly and annual reports; call logs and templates; staff notebooks; correspondence; memos, minutes, and a certificate of incorporation relating to the name change; and notes.

GayLine

Ron O'Dor's administrative correspondence and records

Series comprises Ron O'Dor's administrative correspondence, reports and other records related to his teaching, committee work and research roles within and external to Dalhousie University, and to his roles as head of the Department of Biology and director of the Aquatron facility. Records related directly to his teaching are largely found in the teaching records series, while most correspondence related to named research projects is found within the related series or subseries.

Publications and academic writing

Series contains materials written by Freedman and related materials collected by Freedman. Written material includes manuscripts, draft manuscripts, encyclopedic entries, essays, reports, conference and workshop papers, newspaper columns, book reviews and other documents written by Freedman. Related materials include research, annotated articles, notes, correspondence, reviewer comments and other documents.

Video library

Series consists of records that document the administrative and operational activities of Dalhousie Univerity’s MedIT. These include videos of administrative meetings, conference lectures, curriculum lectures, extracurricular activities such as student and faculty concerts, interviews pertaining to Dalhousie Medical School’s history and alumni, medical employee professionalization, public lectures, and patient education.

Videos from conferences were sponsored, organized, and funded by the Dalhousie Medical School as part of the school's contribution to the larger medical community's commitment to public and student education, as well as an opportunity to showcase the quality of the School's facilities, faculty, and students. Some of the conferences included are "The First Gynaecological Grand Rounds," "Medicine in the Humanities," and "Women in Medicine." A sample of lectures and panel discussions are included from each conference.

The majority of tapes included in the series were used in the Dalhousie Medical School curriculum, including lectures, seminars, educational demonstrations of procedures and interactions with patients, and round-table discussions with students and faculty. Videos are included from various departments in the Dalhousie Medical School, including the departments of Anaesthesia, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Community Health and Epidemiology, Family Medicine, Medicine, Microbiology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine, Physiology and Biophysics, Radiology, Rheumatology, Urology, the Medical Education Unit, and the Division of Continuing Medical Education. The series also contains videos created at and for hospitals in Halifax, Nova Scotia and local medical associations. These videos were designed for the education of medical employees, patients, and the general public.

Several videos from a series "Dalhousie Medical School Remembered" are also included in this series, which consist of interviews with alumni of the School, reflecting on their experiences at Dalhousie and in the medical profession.

Clippings

Series contains news clippings regarding LGBT social and political issues, culture, and events. Series contains four sub-series of clippings regarding LGBT social and political issues, culture, and events; the Commission of Inquiry on the Blood System in Canada [the Krever Inquiry]; HIV/AIDS in Nova Scotia; and HIV/AIDS in Canada and Abroad.

Lectures and class notes

Series contains materials regarding Brian Hall's lectures and class notes. Written materials include handwritten and typed notes, lecture outlines, annotated articles, crib sheets for tests, and overhead slides with figures.

Marginal Work World Research Program

Series comprises records created and collected by Richard Apostle documenting his work in the Marginal Work World Research Program, an interdisciplinary and long-term examination of employment and work settings in the Maritime provinces carried out through the Institute of Public Affairs, Dalhousie University. Richard Apostle's research focused on two projects: the General Segmentation Survey, which involved the collection and analysis of private sector employment data across the Maritimes; and the longitudinal Morphology Survey, which sampled low-wage establishments across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, and included managerial personnel and employee interviews. Record types include secondary readings and notes; datasets; agreements; recorded interview and transcripts; manuscripts and published papers; meeting records; and correspondence and memoranda.

Sound recordings

Series contains audio recordings of musical performances featuring Stephen Pedersen's compositions and/or his performances on flute and piccolo. Series includes recordings of Pedersen's solo performances and performances by musical ensembles including Scotia Wind and the Halifax Woodwind Quintet. Most recordings are on audio reels; series includes two audio cassettes of a radio play featuring Pedersen's music. Recordings include several made for radio or television broadcast.

Business papers re. Henry House

Series includes correspondence and papers relating to the business side of Henry House, including architectural plans for proposed additions/alterations to the building.

Dalhousie University student information cards arranged by student numbers

Series contains student registration cards. The cards contain information about students registered at Dalhousie University between 1968 and the mid-1980s. Cards typically contain information about previous education, year of enrollment, age at enrollment, degree sought, subjects studied and marks received, name(s) of parent or guardian, and home address.

Publications

Series contains materials regarding Brian Hall's publications. Materials include figures and original visuals for various publications, as well as reviews and correspondence about Hall's books.

J. Graham Morgan's teaching records

Series consists of J. Graham Morgan's records documenting his teaching in the Department of Sociology (later Sociology and Social Anthropology), including course and topics outlines, examinations and assignments.

Calendars and programs

The series consists of calendars and programs for various Dalhousie Art Gallery events from 1965 to 2008, with one or two copies of each issue. Work and seminars

Series contains materials related to Brian Hall's work and seminars. Written materials include programmes and notices for seminars, protocols, notes taken by Hall at seminars, and Hall's Student Ratings of Instructions (SRIs) for 2006 - 2007.

Exhibition files

Series contains exhibition files created by the Dalhousie Art Gallery. Exhibition files contain administrative records that document the planning and promotion of exhibitions presented at the Dalhousie Art Gallery from its inception in 1953 to the present day. Some known exhibitions do not have corresponding exhibition files, but the series provides a comprehensive record of the gallery's exhibitions.

Activities documented in exhibition files vary, but typically include transportation and insurance of exhibited works of art, compensation and accommodations for artists or curators, preparation of promotional material and exhibition catalogues, organization of public events, and coordination of touring exhibitions. Exhibition files may include correspondence, insurance documents, contracts, invoices, invitations, interdepartmental memos, floor plans, lists of artworks, handling instructions, condition reports, photographs, newspaper clippings, reviews, and other material.
