GayLine reference materials

Series contains reference materials used by volunteers of the GayLine. Series is divided into two subseries.
The first sub-series contains reference and educational materials used by GayLine volunteers covering issues such as homosexuality and coming out, sexual heath and AIDS prevention, alcoholism and substance abuse, abuse in LGBT relationships, parenting, discrimination, legal rights, and women's issues. Materials include pamphlets, flyers, legal briefs and resources, newsletters, essays, and bibliographies.
The second subseries contains reference materials relating to the operations of other helplines, as well as information about LGBT businesses and services, community groups, and events in Halifax, across Canada, and in the United States, Europe, Mexico, and Oceania. Materials include advertisements and press releases, pamphlets, newsletters, flyers, information sheets, and directories.

GayLine

GayLine recruitment and training materials

Series contains materials used in the recruitment and training of GayLine volunteers. Materials include training session records and schedules; help line manuals and crisis intervention strategies; GayLine pamphlets; volunteer application forms, information sheets, and guidelines; and correspondence relating to volunteers.

GayLine administrative records

Series contains administrative records for the GayLine, established in 1972. GayLine was renamed to the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Line in 1994. Materials in this series include GayLine monthly and annual reports; call logs and templates; staff notebooks; correspondence; memos, minutes, and a certificate of incorporation relating to the name change; and notes.

Gay Men's Health Research Project planning materials, correspondence, and notes

File contains planning materials relating to the Gay Men's Health Research project. Materials include one blank copy of the project's environmental scan; one copy of the agenda for the project's first group meeting, held February 17, 2001; resources relating to research principles and gay men's health; correspondence dated 2001; one photocopy of an article from the May 17, 2001 issue of the Daily News entitled Parents search for man who vanished from bar; contact lists; workplans; and notes.

Gay men's health and HIV/AIDS

Subseries contains materials documenting NSRAP's research and support work related to HIV/AIDS, including the Gay Men's Health Research Project, and NSRAPS's response to Nova Scotia's Strategy for HIV/AIDS. Materials in subseries include Gay Men's Health Research Project planning and research materials, HIV/AIDS related government policy documents, meeting minutes and agendas, correspondence, and notes.

Garrison, Jim

File contains a typed letter (with three lines of handwritten correspondence) sent by Jim Garrison, District Attorney of New Orleans, to Kenneth Leslie, dated January 18, 1973. The typed portion of the letter discusses Garrison's review that was featured in the forthcoming February 1973 issue of Harper's Magazine, where Garrison reviewed the diaries of Arthur Bremer (who attempted to assassinate Governor George Wallace in Laurel, Maryland the previous May). A facsimile of Garrison's review is included in this file. The handwritten postscript to the letter thanks Leslie for publishing Garrison's most recent press release in a recent issue of Leslie's "New Man" publication, and also expresses his thanks for Leslie's gift of a book of his "excellent poems."

File contains correspondence with or about Andrea N. Gareau. Also includes a curriculum vitae for Andre N. Gareau. Also contains photocopies of newspaper clippings and discussion summaries.

Garber, Paul

File contains two letters written by Bishop Paul N. Garber (of Geneva, Switzerland), and one response from Kenneth Leslie, dated March and April 1946. The first letter, dated March 7, 1946, from Garber, informs Leslie of his meeting in Warsaw with Stefan Molski, a correspondent for Leslie's publication The Protestant, and discusses the current tenuous Polish political situation. The response from Leslie, dated April 11, 1946, inquires as to whether Bishop Garber would be willing contribute an article to The Protestant, and gauging Garber's interest in serving as an adviser of the publication's Editorial Board. Garber's response, dated April 17, 1946. affirms his interest in serving as an editorial adviser, but warns that he will also be "very busy" given his need to attend "four annual conferences [held] in rapid succession in Switzerland, Belgium, Czechoslovakia and Poland."

File contains correspondence with or about Iago Galdston. Also contains a list of consultants to the New York Academy of Medicine's advisory committee on "panic and morale." Also contains a manuscript for the article "Psychiatric disorder among the Yoruba: a report from the Cornell-Aro Mental Health Research Project in the Western Region, Nigeria."

From the Vault

The file consists of records related to the exhibition 'From the Vault' from the gallery's permanent collection, held at the Dalhousie Art Gallery from October 12 to November 9, 1976.

Records consist of draft press releases, correspondence, interdepartmental memos with expense receipts and invoices, a list of Carnegie collection - European prints, clippings, and invitation cards.

Fritz Brandtner 1896-1969

File consists of records related to presenting the exhibition 'Fritz Brandtner 1896-1969: A Retrospective Exhibition', sponsored by Sir George Williams University, Montreal. The exhibition was presented at Dalhousie Art Gallery in February 1972, through circulation in the Atlantic Provinces Art Circuit (APAC).

Records consist of a condition report and handwritten condition notes, an essay on Brandtner's work, an itinerary, and correspondence between Dalhousie Art Gallery and other APAC member galleries.
