Cornell-Aro Mental Health Research Project in the Western Region, Nigeria (1961) and the Study on the Role of Women (1963)

Series is comprised of materials related to the 1961 Cornell-Aro Research Project in the Western Region and the 1963 Study on the Role of Women. In the Cornell-Aro study, modeled on the Stirling County Study, Leighton’s team analyze the mental health trends of Nigerians living in both major cities and small rural villages via interviews, surveys, and observations. The Role of Women study may possibly be considered a ‘sub-study’ of the Cornell-Aro study, as it uses much of the same research material supplemented by new data. Materials present include correspondence, memoranda, datasets, research notes, fieldnotes reports, speeches, photographs, forms, applications, surveys and questionnaires, medical documents, affiliated studies, and comparative analyses.

The file also contains a copy of the licensing agreement between Budge Wilson and Books for Ears, information about the company, and a copy of the related portion of Budge Wilson's contract with Stoddart Publishing Co. Limited.

File consists of records related to planning an exhibition entitled "Contemporary German prints" organized and circulated by the Goethe-Institut Montreal and the International Programme of the National Museums of Canada (original title: "Contemporary prints from the Federal Republic of Germany"). The Exhibition was presented at the Dalhousie Art Gallery from June 5 to July 6, 1980.

Series comprises created and collected by Richard Apostle in the course of his study of the crisis in the fishing industries in Northern Norway and Atlantic Canada, which was funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and resulted in the publication of Richard Apostle et al., Community, State and Market on the North Atlantic Rim: Challenges to Modernity in the Fisheries. Record types include grant applications, reports and correspondence; publishing and editorial correspondence; secondary research materials; taped research interviews; manuscripts; and a copy of the published book.

Materials include lists of witnesses and parties granted standing and counsel, court procedures, schedules, media guidelines, background information on key players, memos, and correspondence.

COMARGE: Continental Margin Ecosystems on a Worldwide Scale

Subseries contains correspondence, research data, and conference minutes and notes related to the Census of Marine Life subcommittee Continental Margin Ecosystems on a Worldwide Scale (COMARGE). The Continental Margin Ecosystem on a Worldwide Scale project examined life on the continental slopes, over the course of 60 expeditions. The project, led by French scientists Myrian Sibuet and Lenaick Menot and American scientist Robert Carney, discovered stretches of life flourishing on these marginal spaces (including heretofore unknown coral reefs off Africa). The project also examined the threat posed by oil and gas drilling on these sensitive stretches of seafloor.

Colonial office correspondence

File consists of handwritten notes on correspondence between the Colonial Office in London, England, and administrative officials including Frederick Lugard and Charles Lindsay Temple. The notes were compiled from correspondence from the Public Record Office by James Morrison during the 1970's in Nigeria.
