Resource and reference material

While MOVE was active, the organization served as a reference and resource library which contained publications by activist groups across Canada, as well as the publications from MOVE's coalition member groups, which this series contains. In addition, the resource and reference material contains articles, instructional material (such as funding kits), bills and ordinances, newspaper clippings on current issues and MOVE, and informational material on pressing concerns such as environment, civil rights, women's' rights, poverty, housing, rent control, and nuclear energy.

Research records

Series contains records produced in the course of Jill Grant’s research activity, and includes research applications and reports, research ethics applications and reports, correspondence, notebooks, working papers,slides and print photographs, research data (interviews and surveys) and participant consent forms. Series is divided into subseries by project titles.

Research of John Godfrey

Series consists of writings and research by Godfrey on topics of interest such as French and world history, art, and the prison system. Types of records include notes, correspondence, journal articles, an essay by Godfrey on Nationalism, an audio reel of a lawyers’ conference, and a videocassette.

Research of John F. Graham

Series consists of research materials collected by Graham. Topics consist of urban development, education, and the local, regional, and Canadian economy. Series also includes a copy of the New Democratic Party’s Waffle Manifesto.

Research of James Aitchison

Series consists of research done and collected by Aitchison during his career. Research topics include political issues in Halifax and Nova Scotia, the Maritimes, and across Canada, including Quebec separatism and at the federal government level. Also included are American and world political topics. Types of records include offprints, addresses, academic papers, journal articles, and notes by Aitchison.

Research of David Braybrooke

Series contains draft manuscripts and notes; bibliographies; research-related grant applications; newspaper and magazine clippings, offprints of journal articles, and other printed material; a scrapbook of articles related to business ethics; notes from interviews; correspondence with colleagues regarding research; notes on works read for Dalhousie Philosophy Department summer reading groups; information on research grants; material related to the hiring of a research assistant; and correspondence related to and notes from lectures attended during Braybrooke's sabbatical to Oxford University. Research topics include the Vagueness Project, work for the committee on the study of political behavior, and utilitarianism, among other diverse subjects.

Series consists of the research material for Peter B. Waite's "Lives of Dalhousie University, Vol.1. Includes notes from the Dalhousie Gazette, President's reports, yearbooks, President's Office and departmental files and the private manuscripts of professors and administrators. Also includes a 1906 Dalhousie College dance card and a Dalhousie University Concert and Sterroptican Views Card.

Research Files

This series contains Norman Creighton's original research, which was primarily intended for his non-fiction articles and radio programs. The files consist of notes from Creighton's observations on trips, transcripts of interviews, correspondence, and printed materials (such as government reports, brochures, pamphlets). The first-hand research was conducted in the Maritimes, and includes the following subjects: noteworthy individuals; local towns with rich traditions; historical events; and current issues and events. The research files also contain assignments Creighton completed for a correspondence course on fiction writing in 1941, and information on H. G. Wells. Creighton was a fan of the author and avidly collected books written by and about Wells for decades. This series contains the following types of materials: funding applications, information and opportunities; project proposals, reports and individual files; funded publications and projects.

Reports and shareholder papers

This series contains documents generated by, or pertaining to, the directors and shareholders of the Dominion Chair Company. These documents include 14 annual Directors' Reports published between 1909 and 1943, letters to shareholders, a newsletter, an analysis of the company's "special loans," lists of shareholders and investors (including those who did not live in the Bass River). This series provides a glimpse into the organizational structure and management of the company, as well as its economic performance during the first half of the twentieth century.

Reports

Series primarily contains correspondence, reference materials, surveys, and typescripts related to Stewart's 300-page report, "Attitudes and Movements in the Maritime Provinces of Canada," commissioned by the Carnegie Corporation in 1933.

Reports

This series contains reports and policies relevant to pulp and paper mill operations, which were published by or for the Scott Paper Company. These include the annual reports of the company, as well as statements and estimations of land ownership and labour potential.

Reid George Nicholson : [convocation materials]

Subfonds contains materials relating to Reid George Nicholson. Nicholson was nominated for an honorary degree from Dalhousie by Joan Cummings, and she collected biographical information about him, including the contributions he made to the MS Society. A sufferer of MS himself, he went out to do public talks about the disease. The materials include background information, resumes, letters supporting the honorary degree nomination and several of Reid Nicholson's publications.

Refuge

Series contains records created or collected by Mary Vingoe related to her play Refuge, which was first read at Nightwood Theatre's New Groundswell Festival in Toronto in March 2013. It premiered in Halifax with Eastern Front Theatre and HomeFirst Productions in October 2013 and was staged by Nightwood Theatre in 2016. In 2014, Refuge was nominated for a Merrit Award for Outstanding Play by a Nova Scotian Playwright. Refuge was also finalist for the 2014 Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia Masterworks Astounding Art Awards, then nominated for the Governor General's Award for English-language drama in 2016.

This series contains newspaper clippings about the United Textile Workers of America Local 159, receipts, an application for membership with the United Textile Workers of America, an efficiency report for 1969, and a record of proceedings and decision of board referees.

Reference material

Series contains various reference material accumulated or created by Fred Brodie, including a copy of the bargaining agreement between the International Typographical Union, Local 130 and the Halifax Herald and a report from the Royal Commission on Newspapers.

Reference cards

Series contains a collection of Brian Hall's reference cards used for citations. Materials include two sharp card sorters used for cohesively organising and finding individual groups of cards. There are approximately 20 000 reference cards. The cards deal with a variety of scientific topics, including but not limited to: the effects of mechanical stress on cartilage in vitro; a clinical overview of neurofibramitosis; and the growth of the facial skeleton in the hominoidea.
