Novanet, Inc. is a consortium of academic libraries in Nova Scotia that shares resources and cooperates to improve common access to information and knowledge for the benefit of their users. Dalhousie University is a founding member.
In 1982 the Council of Metro University Librarians (COMUL) of Halifax was founded in order to create a shared, automated, integrated library system that would handle ordering, circulation, and bibliographic control of the holdings of the member institutions. The members include:
Custodial history
Bill Birdsall, the Executive Director of Novanet, donated the records to Dalhousie University Archives on July 17, 2001.
Scope and content
The fonds contains business correspondence between Novanet's committee members, private vendors, and governmental agencies. Most of the administrative decisions are presented in the minutes from the various committee meetings. Also included are budget files, funding requests through the Canadian Foundation for Innovation; correspondence and contracts with Geac, the vendor of the library management system; and various Novanet reports.

The original order and structure of the records was preserved, except for an artificial series of reports that was culled from the files for clarity's sake. While the files are arranged in chronological order, the item level is arranged in loose chronological order.
