My Father, My Sister

File contains three manuscript drafts of the story, which was was originally titled "The Last Day before my Father's Holiday." There is also correspondence and a chronology of events regarding the story's various submissions, rejections and eventual publication in the Chelsea Journal, and a copy of the journal (Volume 3, Number 6, November-December 1977).

Mystery lights at Blue Harbour : copy edited

File contains a typed and annotated draft of Budge Wilson's book "Mystery Lights at Blue Harbour" and a letter from her editor at Scholastic-TAB Publications Ltd., Sheila Dalton. The draft is missing some pages and included pages are out of order. A note from Budge Wilson on one of the pages reads "pages missing may not have needed edit."

NaGISA: Natural Geography in Shore Areas

Subseries contains correspondence, research data, and conference minutes and notes related to the Census of Marine Life subcommittee Natural Geography in Shore Areas (NaGISA). The Natural Geography in Shore Areas project sought to produce a worldwide near-shore biodiversity inventory, examining marine life in seagrass beds and along rock shores. The project, led by an international contingent of scientists from Japan (Yoshihisa Shirayama), United States (Brenda Konar and Katrin Iken), Venezuela (Patricia Miloslavich and Juan José Cruz Motta), Italy (Lisandro Benedetti-Cecchi), Kenya (Edward Kimani) and Canada (Gerhard Pohle), sampled data from 200 short-term sites and 40 long-terms sites, discovering new species and recording the habits and habitats of other species in new areas.

National Farm Radio Forum fonds

Fonds contains records about the National Radio Farm Forum, a national rural listening-discussion group project. Records relate to the operations of the Nova Scotia and New Brunswick regions and consist of pamphlets, scripts, correspondence, memos, newsletters, guides, National Secretaries report, annual reports from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick regions, and minutes from the regional and national meetings and conferences from 1937-1965. Also included is an account of the activity of the Earltown, Nova Scotia Farm Forum Radio Group from the period of 1961-1962.

National Radio Farm Forum sponsored by the Canadian Association for Adult Education, the Canadian Federation of Agriculture and CBC. Initially, this program was a dramatized discussion of farm problems in wartime, arranged in cooperation with the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, and the Canadian Association for Adult Education. Eventually, it evolved into discussions by individuals from various communities across the country. The program was developed by Orville Shugg and Neil Morrison.

Native conceptions of disease

File contains notes on psychiatric symptoms and diseases present in Nigerian respondents, and on the respondents' beliefs regarding illness. Also contains notes between researchers sharing thoughts and findings. File also includes Jane Murphy's field notes from discussions of disease with respondents. File also contains a copy of the study "The psychiatric examination of native African patients" by Edward L. Margetts.

File contains financial statement for exhibition expenses and interdepartmental memo regarding an honorarium. The exhibition was displayed in the Music Resource Center, Killam Library, from October 2 - November 1, 1975.

File contains the a later draft of a testimony statement delivered by Gilbert Winham before the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, House of Commons, in Halifax on March 24, 1999, under the topic of "New Trade Negotiations in the World Trade Organization". File also includes correspondence between Winham, Georges Etoka, and Richard Dupuis, as well as facsimiles of press releases from the Standing Committee.

New York Public Library and American Library Association recognition of Budge Wilson

File contains correspondence regarding Budge Wilson's book "The Leaving," which was awarded various honours by the American Library Association (ALA) and the New York Public Library: Horn Book Fanfare, School Library Journal Best Book of the Year, an ALA Notable Book Award, a Best Book for Young Adults from the American Library Association, and short listed for the book list Best Book of the Year Award.

New York Times

File contains typed correspondence written by Kenneth Leslie on February 23, 1945, and sent "to the Editor of the New York Times". File addresses Leslie's request for print space to respond to a letter previously submitted by Michael Williams (February 22, 1945 issue), and his assertion that Leslie and The Protestant have made "at least one gravely erroneous historical statement". Williams alleged that The Protestant entertains "the notion that in 1929 the Holy See suddenly and in the most sinister alliance with the political and ideological powers of Fascism, Nazism and dictatorships resumed 'political activities' totally suspended since 1870, and apparently for the express purpose of supporting such regimes...', while Leslie responds stating that the notion The Protestant conveyed was to call attention to the "Papacy's abstention from 'overt political activity' between 1870 and 1929".

New York World-Telegram

File contains typed correspondence written, on The Protestant letterhead, by Kenneth Leslie on February 14, 1944, and sent to the editor of the New York World-Telegram. File addresses Leslie's request for print space to respond to articles previously submitted by a Mr. Woltman (February 7, 8, and 9, 1944 issues), and Woltman's "smear attack" assertion that "The Protestant, its Textbook Commission to Eliminate Anti-Semitic Statements in American Textbooks, and myself, as being 'anti-Jewish,' 'anti-Catholic' and unofficial apologists for Communism." Leslie differentiates between Woltman's assertion of Leslie's attacks on Catholicism, calling them rather "taking issue with the political activities of the Vatican and its emissaries". He responds to the "anti-Jewish" assertion stating that the attacks were on the American Jewish Committee "which does not represent the Jews of America". He also reasserts "The Protestant"'s policy of
attacking Fascism here and abroad, irrespective of whether its sponsorship be Protestant, Catholic or Jewish". He finishes by defending accusations of anti-Semitism levied against Pierre van Paassen, Johannes Steel, and Joseph Brainin (fellow editor of The Protestant), stating that "the accuser must be pitied for having exposed his ignorance--or malice--so flagrantly" by accusing "a man of the stature of Pierre van Paassen, whom the Jews in this country, in Europe and in Palestine have come to regard as their greatest champion, [of anti-Semitism]".

Newfoundland photography exhibition

File consists of records related to the Newfoundland Photography Exhibition as a part of the province's 25th anniversary celebrations organized by Horizon Communications Ltd. The exhibition was shown at Dalhousie Art Gallery from September 23-27, 1974.

Records consist of a press release draft, a photocopy of a list of photographers' names and their addresses in a pamphlet, and shipping receipts.

File contains an amendment to chapter 214 news release; clippings; memos; press release in support of including LGBT individuals in the Human Rights Legislation; pink triangle armband; correspondence; calls for donations; a list of individuals and organizations who wrote to MLA's with sending a copy to LGRNS; draft copy of an opinion article for the Halifax Herald; transcripts of an assembly debate; and a submission in respect of the Human Rights Act Bill 136.

File contains a four-page handwritten letter by Marilyn Nicholson (dated January 26, 1973) and sent to Kenneth Leslie. File begins with Marilyn expressing her great appreciation for receiving Leslie's 'O'Malley to the Reds' collection of poems, before mentioning her "modest" husband David's "temperature [rising] to 150 degrees and all his blood went to his head" upon being reminded that the piece 'Poetry and propaganda' had been dedicated to him by Leslie. The file then passes on best wishes to Nora, before discussing family goings-on.

File consists of records related to the exhibition of paintings by Nicolas Poussin, selected from the National Gallery of Canada. The exhibition was circulated and presented at Dalhousie Art Gallery from October 10 and November 2, 1975.

Nigerian movie

Files contains documents relating to the film "Mental Health Research in Nigeria" that was filmed during the 1961 Cornell-Aro study. Included are memos discussing the film's production and release, notes on filming scenes, a brochure for Cornell's program in social psychiatry, film production and narration notes, comments from researchers, and letters between researchers, librarians, and contacts in the Nigerian government. File also includes a publication called "African film bibliography 1965" by the Committee of Fine Arts and the Humanities of the African Studies Association.
