IBEW Local 1928 membership records

Subseries consists of records regarding memberships, including membership lists, membership cards, correspondence with members, and reports by members.

Subseries also includes correspondence, reports, and membership lists specific to the Labour Pool, which was formed in 1993 through negotiations between IBEW Local 1928 and Nova Scotia Power. The Labour Pool began operation in 1996 and is a union-maintained list of IBEW Local 1928 members, managed by the Labour Pool Administrator and supplied to Nova Scotia Power for casual and term work on a rotating basis.

Negotiations

Subseries consists of records relating to the establishment of and changes to collective agreements, primarily with Nova Scotia Power. IBEW Local 1928 also negotiated collective agreements with the Berwick Electrical Commission; the Towns of Antigonish, Liverpool, Lockeport, Shelburne; the Region of Queens; and the Municipality of Shelburne. Negotiations files for these towns and municipalities also contain correspondence, member lists, health and safety committee minutes, and grievance records.

Republic of Cyprus

Subseries consists of Ronald St. John Macdonald's records regarding his consultation work for the Republic of Cyprus. Subseries contains a draft constitution for the Federal Republic of Cyprus, bulletins, newspaper clippings, reports, and other materials.

Health and safety committees

Subseries consists of documents produced by the health and safety committees of IBEW Local 1928 and Nova Scotia Power Inc. (NSPI), including the General Safety Committee of NSPI; the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC) between NSPI and IBEW Local 1928; and safety committees particular to IBEW units and NSPI work locations. Files include minutes, reports, correspondence, and issues of the “Safety Sentinel,” a report prepared by the Occupational Health and Safety Department of Nova Scotia Power Corporation. Some files with minutes from health and safety committees also contain accident and injury reports.
