Administrative and operational records of the Dalhousie University Institute of Public Affairs

Series consists of documents accumulated by the administration of the Institute of Public Affairs (IPA). The majority of materials are minutes, memorandums, correspondence, and reports created by, or related to, several committees within the IPA. These committees were designed to develop policies, facilitate decision-making, manage projects, and maintain positive relationships with Dalhousie University administration. Series also contains several news and press releases issued by the IPA to generate publicity for important events hosted by the Institute or achievements of its staff. Series also contains academic plans and program guides produced by the IPA which offer insight into the curriculum at Henson College.

Dalhousie University Libraries reports and submissions

Series contains reports, submissions, planning proposals and other documents created, commissioned or collected by the Dalhousie University Libraries. Departmental and unit reports are located in the department/unit records series; committee reports are found in the committees and task forces series; and reports of the University Librarian are held within the University Librarian series.

Events

Series includes documents such as flyers, programmes, reports, and posters pertaining to the various events organised by the DWC.

Interest groups

Series includes records such as membership lists and reports pertaining to the various interest groups established by the DWC.

Minutes

Series includes the minutes and agendas for the annual general meetings and executive meetings.

Dalhousie Women's Club photographs

Series includes photographs (some dated and labelled) of DWC members and their families. Occasions represented include a Fiesta Party, the Children's Christmas party (1979 and 1980), Newcomers' Party (1985 and 1986), Winery Field Trip, Fashion Shows, Puppet Building Workshop, DWC Gourmet Club, and several photographs of DWC Puppet Group productions. Most of the binder photographs (Box 3, Folders 19 and 22) pertain to DWC Puppet Group productions.

Henry Hicks' addresses and press releases

Series comprises records created and collected by Henry Hicks that document his activities as a public speaker across his political career and as an educator and university president. Record types include speaking notes, scripts, press releases reporting on his addresses, and transcriptions of speeches. Series also contains related briefings, correspondence, news clippings and programs.

Henry Hicks' personal records

Series consists of records created and collected by Henry Hicks that document his interests and activities outside of his professional political and university careers, including committee work, social engagements, community involvement and travel. There are also financial records and correspondence relating to his father's business and estate and two notebooks belonging to his wife Gene. Record types include calendars, meeting minutes, invitations, programs, cassette tapes and newspaper clippings.

Photographs of Henry Hicks

Series comprises photographs of Henry Hicks taken primarily during his years as a professional politician and university president, and includes both portraits and images of him with others at receptions, meetings, convocations ceremonies and other occasions. There are also some earlier family pictures and photographs taken during his time in the military.

Costume studies program course materials

This series consists of records relating to courses Doyle taught between 1974 and 1997. Subjects taught include Sewing, Pattern Drafting, and Designers Language. The series contains class schedules, course outlines, supplies lists, class projects, marking systems, Christmas examinations, and various student records.

Connecting Company Original Records

Series contains records from the following telephone companies: Telephone Company of Prince Edward Island, the Valley Telephone Company, Yarmouth Amalgamated Telephone Company, Barrington Township Telephone Company, and Westport and Digby Telephone Company. Records include annual statements, directories, ledgers, and minute books.

Ransom Myers’ litigation and consultancy

Series consists of records regarding Ransom Myers’ work as a consultant under the incorporated company Ransom A. Myers & Associates Limited Natural Resources Consultant. Series includes correspondence, datasets, annotated reference articles and government documents, invoices, signed contracts, affidavits, court documents, materials prepared in anticipation of litigation, press, declarations and meeting minutes.

Administration

Series contains administrative created by Maritime Telegraph and Telephone Company. Series includes Public Utility Board orders, correspondence with connecting companies, resolutions, petitions, notices, reports, statistics, development studies, surveys, and purchase records.

Records of the Symphony Nova Scotia Board of Directors

Series contains meeting minutes and packages, which were filed variously by either calendar year or fiscal year, and either separate from or together with Executive Committee minutes. The original order of these files has been maintained. Meeting packages may contain copies of reports, correspondence, media clippings or other materials introduced or distributed at meetings. Series also contains annual reports of Symphony Nova Scotia.

Personal papers of Ransom Myers

Series contains correspondence—written and electronic—press materials collected by Ransom Myers (including magazines and newspaper articles), personal photographs of trips, and Myers’ curriculum vitae.

Interviews and reports on university topics

Series contains audio reels from CKDU radio with interviews and reports conducted by CKDU radio hosts on university topics, including but not limited to Dalhousie.

Consultancy work

Series contains documents related to Freedman’s work as an environmental consultant. The organizations represented in this series include P. Lane and Associates Ltd., Gardner Pinfold Consulting Economists Ltd., the School for Resource and Environmental Studies and the Department of Biology at Dalhousie University. Series includes private and government reports, draft reports, correspondence, datasets, annotated reference articles and other documents.

Societies and organizations

Series contains documents related to Freedman’s involvement with organizations outside of his employment. The organizations represented in the series are the National Conservancy of Canada, Sustainable Forestry Initiative, the Centre for International Security and Cooperation and others. Documents include meeting minutes, agenda items, correspondence, and other reference material.
