Fonds contains Jean Mason Pell's broadcast scripts for The Gillans, a dramatic radio serial about a farming family produced for the Maritime version of CBC's Farm Family, which aired from 1941-1971. It was written by Norman Creighton and Kay Hill until 1949, when Jean Pell took over as the scriptwriter until the serial's final season in 1971. Scripts for the program, which aired every weekday, are arranged in chronological order; the occurrence of "emergency scripts," which were substituted when one or more characters were unable to perform, resulted in some episode numbers being skipped or numbered out of order.

Item is a photograph of Kenneth Cox. In 1937, Dr. Cox moved to Truro, Nova Scotia, where he accepted an appointment as Provincial Agronomist and Professor of Agronomy at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. These two roles were continued until 1946. In 1941 he was also appointed Vice-Principal of the College and Farm Director. He held the position of Nova Scotia Agricultural College principal from 1946 - 1964.

Item consists of an offprint of the paper "Management of solar greenhouses", written by Linda Gilkeson of the Ark Project, originally published in "Solar Energy: Bringing it down to Earth: The Proceedings of the Solar Energy Society of Canada Inc., 1979 National Conference".

Abstract: "The positive and negative effects on plant growth of environmental conditions in the Ark solar greenhouse have been monitored. The lower light levels, wide temperature fluctuations, low winter temperatures, high relative humidity and possibly low COz levels compared to conventional greenhouses have been problems that have been solved to varying degrees. Plant variety selection, revised bench design and the addition of a heat exchanger are used together to provide optimum conditions within the solar design."
