Atlantic tours : more than just a bus ride

Item consists of a promotional tape for Atlantic Tours. Makes you completely forget about the smelly exhaust filled atmosphere of buses. The narrator, a young handsome escort, assures you that your tour will be worry-free, informative and most significantly, full of fun. The tape is comprised of footage from one scenic and one shopping excursion and includes quaint impersonations by the narrator, as well as live footage and interviews with seniors.

Shuffle

Item consists of a video by Douglas Waterman. An insert in the U-matic tape box describes the video as follows:

"A static electrical charge is generated by shuffling my clothed feet over an insulator, and by postponing contact with elements having characteristics which would operate as outlets for the charges being generated. The stored charge emits an electrical fields that draws the particles (ashes) toward it. A proportion of the charge from my hand jumps to the particles as the particles rise to and contact my hand. The particles have received an overcharge which opposes it to its source, so is driven back to its resting place. Dispersal time for the particles' energy is (approx. 10 sec.) allowing it to be activated again, initiating another cycle as the particles slowly spread out."

Alchemy : End of a phase

Item consists of a video by Valerie LeBlanc. The tape is a personal recount of the director’s decision to give up one art form, that of glass blowing, to move on to something new. Shot in simple style that combines still images with a visual performance/ demonstration and a layered soundtrack. Its title, "Alchemy" references the term's use to describe the medieval science of chemistry that allows one to transform something special. It also is considered to be a lost art.

It was produced by Joe Blades of Broken Jaw Press, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
