Administrative history
The Canadian Film Centre was founded in 1988 by Norman Jewison, a Canadian filmmaker, as a film school. The CFC provides mentoring, funding and promotion of the Canadian film industry. The Centre has over 100 participants in more than a dozen programs, which are completed to encourage projects, collaboration and opportunities within Canada’s entertainment industry. The Canadian Film Centre Productions’ work, “Canada for Canadians”, became a part of the tape collection of the Centre for Art Tapes.
Custodial history
The tape was donated to the Dalhousie University Archives in 2013 by the Centre for Art Tapes.
Scope and content
Item consists of a video recording which was constructed to combat Conservative government propaganda. The video pictures Canada as a strong and proud nation that features interviews with prominent Canadians who state their reservations with the Free Trade Policy, which the Mulroney government has attempted to denigrate all opposition to the policy with the United States.
