The first piece of correspondence, dated January 5th, discusses Lydia's declining health. The second piece of correspondence, dated January 8th, mentions Lydia's excitement about receiving a copy of Kenneth Leslie's recent anthology of poems, and how the package "looked exactly like your old Protestant" when it arrived.
