AquaNet

Series consists of records created and collected by Richard Apostle in the course of his aquaculture research conducted under the auspices of AquaNet: Network of Centres of Excellence in Aquaculture, which was an NSERC-funded grant of 10.9 million dollars for which Richard Apostle was a co-investigator through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. The two projects on which he worked were “The Institutional and Social Structure of Aquaculture: A Comparative Study,” with Gene Barrett and John Phyne, and “The Social Construction of Environmental Risk and Benefits: Risk to Whom? Benefits to Whom?”, with Ralph Matthews, Susan Elliot, Brian Elliot and John Phyne.

Record types in this series include grant-related correspondence, applications, budgets and reports; research correspondence; presentations and papers in manuscript and published form; and secondary research materials.

Set designs

Series contains set designs for Neptune Theatre productions, including original drawings, annotated copies, and some light plot and prop designs.

Administrative records

This series contains documents pertaining to the administrative aspects of the Associated Alumni. Documents include correspondence and questionnaires pertaining to the association's founding as well as drafts of the association's constitution, by-laws, and list of executive committee members.

Calendars and programs

The series consists of calendars and programs for various Dalhousie Art Gallery events from 1965 to 2008, with one or two copies of each issue. Information includes schedules of exhibitions, films, lectures, presentations, concerts, lunch-hour events, special events, gallery hours and contact information.

Exhibition files

Series contains exhibition files created by the Dalhousie Art Gallery. Exhibition files contain administrative records that document the planning and promotion of exhibitions presented at the Dalhousie Art Gallery from its inception in 1953 to the present day. Some known exhibitions do not have corresponding exhibition files, but the series provides a comprehensive record of the gallery's exhibitions.

Activities documented in exhibition files vary, but typically include transportation and insurance of exhibited works of art, compensation and accommodations for artists or curators, preparation of promotional material and exhibition catalogues, organization of public events, and coordination of touring exhibitions. Exhibition files may include correspondence, insurance documents, contracts, invoices, invitations, interdepartmental memos, floor plans, lists of artworks, handling instructions, condition reports, photographs, newspaper clippings, reviews, and other material.

Susan Kerslake's published books

Series contains four books published by Susan Kerslake, including Middlewatch, Penumbra, The Book of Fears, and Blind Date. All four are in good condition and are autographed by her.

Series contains administrative, financial and editorial records for Wayves magazine, including photographs, in addition to issues of Wayves magazine.

Series consists of Reverend Robert Murray's correspondence and records regarding his involvement with the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes and his participation in a farewell dinner on the R.M.S. Aurania.

J. Graham Morgan's teaching records

Series consists of J. Graham Morgan's records documenting his teaching in the Department of Sociology (later Sociology and Social Anthropology), including course and topics outlines, examinations and assignments.

Henry Orenstein's records

Series consists of Henry Orenstein's materials regarding his professional activities, including photographs, negatives, sketches, programs, flyers, posters, postcards, slides, correspondence and other materials. Fonds contains several of Henry Orenstein's art pieces and sketches, including related to the "Sudbury Industrial Landscape" project. In the 1950s, Henry Orenstein was commissioned by the Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers of Sudbury to paint a mural for the local union hall, which was the centre of a broad-ranging cultural role of Mine Mill Local 598 in the Sudbury area. At that time, Mine Mill was in the midst of a series of raids by the United Steelworkers.

Leslie E. Haley's records regarding the Gambia project

Series consists of Leslie E. Haley's materials regarding his involvement in the Gambia project, Dalhousie University's Gambia College Development Program. Series includes a financial statement, legal release forms, event programmes, correspondence, and other textual records.

Ron O'Dor's administrative correspondence and records

Series comprises Ron O'Dor's administrative correspondence, reports and other records related to his teaching, committee work and research roles within and external to Dalhousie University, and to his roles as head of the Department of Biology and director of the Aquatron facility. Records related directly to his teaching are largely found in the teaching records series, while most correspondence related to named research projects is found within the related series or subseries.

GayLine recruitment and training materials

Series contains materials used in the recruitment and training of GayLine volunteers. Materials include training session records and schedules; help line manuals and crisis intervention strategies; GayLine pamphlets; volunteer application forms, information sheets, and guidelines; and correspondence relating to volunteers.

Nova Scotia Agricultural College student records

Series contains records, books, photographs, and a time of capsule, of past students and their involvement in a variety of activities at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College as well as updates and autobiographies after graduation. Subseries include athletic sporting events, student councils, and convocation events, employment statistics, etc., between 1905-2012.

Coast to Coast

Series contains audio reels from the CKDU radio program, Coast to Coast. Coast to Coast was one of the original programs hosted and broadcast on 97.5 FM in 1984. It was a weekly program provided exposure for local bands.

Interviews and reports on health topics

Series contains audio reels from CKDU radio with interviews and reports conducted by CKDU radio hosts on health topics, including LGBTQ+ issues and AIDS.

Growing up Black in Halifax

Series contains three audio reels from Growing up Black in Halifax, a three-part radio series broadcast on CKDU Radio 97.5. The series originated from a conversation between Rocky Jones and his daughter, Tracey Jones during Black History Month in February 1989. The series is an interview between Belinda MacFadyen of CKDU radio and Tracey Jones.

Idle Reels

Series contains audio reels from the CKDU radio program Idle Reels. Idle Reels was one of the original programs broadcast on CKDU when it began in 1984. The program is made up of approximately 30 minute episodes of experimental sound compositions, which aired at 11:30 pm.

Independently Speaking

Series contains audio reels from the CKDU radio program Independently Speaking. This program features interviews with Halifax residents.

Title Waves

Series contains audio reels from the CKDU radio program, Title Waves. This program featured interviews with Canadian authors, predominantly from the Atlantic provinces. It was produced by CKDU radio and aired on The Evening Affair, CKDU's evening public affairs program.

Grants

Series contains materials regarding Brian Hall's grants. Written materials include approval letters, information about the projects requiring grants, and work updates.

Posters

Series contains posters for concerts by the Halifax Camerata Singers, including those performed with various guest artists and ensembles, including several collaborations with Symphony Nova Scotia. Most of the concerts took place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with some elsewhere in Nova Scotia, and in Prince Edward Island and Alberta.

Sound recordings

Series contains sound recordings of Sheila Piercey's opera performances, dress rehearsals, auditions, practice sessions, radio broadcast, as well as concert and recital performances with the Canadian Opera Company (COC). Most recordings are on audio reels and cassette tapes.

Textual records

Series contains records accumulated and created by Sheila Piercey when she was a student at Dalhousie University and while teaching voice in the Dalhousie Department of Music. Materials include teaching records and various programs from the Dalhousie Glee and Dramatic Society, Dalhousie Tigers, graduation recitals, noon-hour recitals, festivals, opera workshops, and other performances produced by the Dalhousie Department of Music.

Event programs, flyers, and promotional materials

Series contains duplicate programs, flyers, and other promotional materials from fonds in the Nova Scotia LGBT Seniors Archive. Materials in series include flyers and event cards for the Halifax Fetish Ball, flyers for a speaking engagement and meet and greet with South African political activist Simon Nkoli, flyers and programs for the Awake The World HIV/AIDS awareness event, and programs and program inserts from Mr. Atlantic Canada [M.A.C.] Leather contests.

Series consists of photographs related to the Nova Scotia Mass Choir from 1925 to 2021.

Series comprises Ronald St. John Macdonald's records regarding his professional activities, including his involvement with different organizations, such as the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights, the Hague, World Academy of Arts and Science, Canadian Council of International Law, United Nations, Institute of International Law, African Society of International Law, British Institute of International Law, Canadian Institute of International Law, International Law Association, and others. Series contains four sub-series of clippings regarding LGBT social and political issues, culture, and events; the Commission of Inquiry on the Blood System in Canada [the Krever Inquiry]; HIV/AIDS in Nova Scotia; and HIV/AIDS in Canada and Abroad.

There stands Dalhousie

Series contains several 16 mm film reels containing a film entitled "There Stands Dalhousie," which premiered at an Alumni Association event in 1976. The film contains video of various Dalhousie buildings and individuals, including David Brown, President Henry Hicks, Wilf Creighton, Miss. Metherall, Murray Rankin, Professor Willis, and C.L. Bennet.
