Collection contains records collected by Lynn Murphy through her association with the Gay and Lesbian Association (GALA) of Nova Scotia, and her participation in organizing Halifax Pride marches, parades and other LGBT initiatives. Fonds primarily contains records of the GayLine a phone helpline for LGBT Nova Scotians funding by GAE/GALA that operated between 1972-1996. In 1994 the name was changed to the Gay, Lesbian & Bisexual Line. Fonds contains three series; one containing administrative and financial records, one containing recruitment and training materials, and one containing reference materials for volunteers. Materials include monthly and annual reports; meeting minutes; call logs and templates; staff notebooks; correspondence; pamphlets; volunteer training session materials, application forms and guidelines; flyers; legal briefs and resources; newsletters; essays; bibliographies; and directories.

Fonds contains materials collected by Al Stewart as part of his involvement in the Maritime leather community, his LGBT advocacy work at Saint John's United Church in Halifax, and his involvement in the broader LGBT community in Nova Scotia. Leather community records document the activities of the TightRope leather brotherhood, Mr. Atlantic Canada Leather [MACLeather] contests, and other leather groups across Canada and the United States. Materials include administrative records, photographs, promotional materials, correspondence, newsletters, and catalogues. United Church materials primarily relate to Stewart's efforts to attain Affirmed status for St. John's United Church, and include reference materials, correspondence, and newsletters. Fonds also contains objects and ephemera related to the leather community, Affirm, and Stewart's membership in the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union [NSGEU], as well as personal photographs, correspondence, and LGBT publications.

Series contains copies of Gaezette, a publication which was originally published as the newsletter for the Gay Alliance for Equality. It was published by a non-profit collective between 1984-1995, when it changed its name to Wayves. It existed to inform lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people across Atlantic Canada of activities in their communities, and to promote those activities and support their aims and objectives.
