Fonds consists of diaries and notebooks; printed programmes, books, and newspaper clippings regarding Col. William Rhoades or the regiments with which he served, including the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles. Fonds also contains miscellaneous papers related to his career.

The fonds includes a range of correspondence; biographical records pertaining to Read himself such as newspaper clippings and a curriculum vitae; conference papers; various association files and Dalhousie committee files; lecutres; souvenirs from Read's military career that include certificates, miniature medals, a records of military service; published and printed workds; committee files related to the Nova Scotia Labour Relations Board, the Nova Scotia Royal Commission on Auto Insurance, Uniformity of Legislation in Canada, the King's Regulation Revision Committee; and photographs (primarily of Read during the War or attending various functions).
Fonds includes published and unpublished papers, correspondence to and from Fred Sears between 1905-1907 while he was Professor of Horticulture at Nova Scotia Agricultural College. The glass negative, lantern slides, and copy negatives and contact prints depict apples and orchard practice around the Agricultural campus and Nova Scotia. Notes on some of the sleeves of the negatives suggest that they date from the period 1898-1907.

From 1908-1924 the entries are made largely by Charlotte, with occasional entries in another hand, possibly their daughter, Esther's. Interleaved in the second volume of the diary are handwritten copies of a family register and a photograph of an unidentified girl.

Collection contains tractor and farm equipment manuals that were collected and used by staff of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College for equipment used on the campus in the 20th Century. There are Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture and Marketing scrapbooks of clippings of agricultural activity in Nova Scotia from 1900 to 1949. Entries include pencil drawings of animals and plants, newspaper clippings, as well as agricultural events around Nova Scotia from the NS Dept. of Agriculture annual reports. Scrapbooks also include pictures of Nova Scotia Agricultural College buildings, animal breeds, and events on campus. There are also annual reports of various departments of the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture, and transcripts for Garden Guide Radio from 1980-2002.
Collection consists of records with information about individual co-operatives and credit unions in Atlantic Canada, as well as documents from larger region-wide co-operative organizations. There is also a large section of general co-op literature about co-operation as a social movement, in Canada and around the world. There are published books, serials, brochures, reports, photographs and slides, maps, audio and visual material, and artifacts. The age of the materials ranges from the early 1900s up to 2002, the majority spans from the 1950s to the 1990s.

Fonds includes items dealing with the invention of and patenting of a hydraulic gold extractor first registered in 1887. Also involves setting up a company to use the machine and begin gold mining. The material covers a period of 1883 to 1905, and involves many individuals in the business and legal community of Halifax and the South Shore. It also includes the original patent with the specification and diagrams, other diagrams, a 31 page hand written report by Westhaver on his trip to Dawson City, Yukon in 1902 to test his separator. A very interesting collection of letters, documents, legal correspondence, governmental material, etc., etc., dealing with the starting of a company to use the gold separate and Westhaver's various difficulties with financing and control.
