Administrative history

I. H. Mathers and Son Ltd. was a shipping company founded by Isaac H. Mathers in 1872 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The company exported lumber and canned lobster, later diversifying into other products and expanding their trade to the West Indies and Scandinavia. Harry Isaac Mathers II became the company’s president in 1945. The company expanded to include a tugboat business in the 1960’s, and a freight business in the 1990’s, among other expansions.
