Political career of James Aitchison

Series consists of records relating to Aitchison’s political career as leader of Nova Scotia’s New Democratic Party and as president of the party. Types of records include statements made as leader of the party, campaign pamphlets, and a provincial electoral commission report.

Correspondence of Adams and Knickle Limited

Correspondence series consists of Adams & Knickle's general business correspondence and business correspondence concerning its fishing, shipping and vessel operations. The information contained in this series relates to fishing and shipping transactions; relations with both local and foreign agents; shipping events and voyages throughout the Atlantic Ocean; maintenance and refitting of vessels; insurance policies; and legal vessel matters. The Vessel Operations series also contain captain's correspondence and shipping agents' correspondence concerning specific transactions with vessels and events relating to Adams & Knickle vessels.

Legal matters of Acadian Supplies Company

This series contains insurance policies, legal contracts, court papers, Nova Scotia Company Act and shareholder related records. The insurance policies cover stock, buildings and machinery of Acadian Supplies Company legal contracts include an indenture and use of land. Court papers record major debts owed to Acadian Supplies Company. The shareholder related records include a sample of stock certificates for Acadian Supplies and Vessel Company, shareholder meeting minutes, lists of shareholders and stocks owned by Acadian Supplies.

Medical Dental Library records

Series consists of records created, collected or otherwise pertaining to the Medical Dental Library and earlier iterations of the library that served Dalhousie's faculties of medicine and dentistry before the establishment of the W.K. Kellogg Health Sciences Library in 1967. Record types include annual reports, accession books, journal and library holdings lists, committee reports and minutes, borrowing statistics, financial records and correspondence.

Dalhousie no. 7 stationary hospital

The Dalhousie University No. 7 "Overseas" Stationary Hospital was established in response to the need for qualified medical personnel required to serve in the First World War. It was first mobilized on November 9, 1915 at Dalhousie Medical College in Halifax. Balcom was involved as pharmacist and stock keeper for the second half of the war. In later years he was an active force in keeping the survivors in touch and organising reunion events.

Radio and television broadcast scripts

Series contains more than two dozen typescripts (unless otherwise noted) of Thomas Head Raddall's radio and television broadcasts. The bulk of these are his own scripts, not others' adaptations of his work.

Sales and shipping operations

This series contains administrative and operational records for Acadian Supplies Company and Acadian Vessel Company These records include tenders, annual statements for the joint stock registry, Dominion Statistic surveys and directors listing.

Nova Hereford Farms

Series contains correspondence and meeting minutes from the Canadian Hereford Association and the Canadian Hereford Board of Directors. It also contains herd reduction sales catalogues, production sales reports, cattle weight certificates, and correspondence with various organizations.

Statement books

Series contains seven statement books used to record daily cash transactions at the Dominion Chair Company. At the end of each book are summaries (monthly and yearly) of their cash sales. There are no details provided about the items sold, just the amount of cash exchanged. These books also include observations about the weather.

Powers Brothers' photographs

Series consists of photographs taken or commissioned by Powers Brothers. These photos are primarily of plumbing or heating jobs the company completed around Nova Scotia and displays of the company's goods and services, which were shown at local exhibitions (such as the Nova Scotia Fisheries Exhibition). The series also includes photographs of employees, Powers Brothers storefronts in Lunenburg, and parade floats sponsored by the company. Many of the photos are not dated, and people in the photographs are not identified.

Sales and shipping operations

Sales and Shipping Operations series consists of fish catches, fish sales, stock journals and employment and time records. Types of documents include journals, notebooks, a salt fish barrel label, patterns for making sails and workmen compensation forms regarding employer pay roll totals for each year. The information contained in this series includes the size and species of fish catches; the market values of salted, dried, green and fresh fish that Adams & Knickle processed, packed and sold; the types of equipment and supplies provided by Adams & Knickle; and the cost and amount of effort required to get fish to market.

Vessel papers

This series consists of all records relating to vessels Lunenburg Outfitting Co. dealt with. The types of records include schooners accounts receivable, builders agreements, trip accounts, insurance, protests and crew lists.

Vessel operations records of Adams and Knickle Limited

Vessel Operations series consists of vessels papers, vessel certificates and sailing journals. Types of documents include captain's correspondence and accounts, agents' accounts, correspondence, port documentation, trip financial summaries, agreements and charters with shipping agents, notices of protest, crew lists, affidavits, insurance records, vessel accounts and logs. Information includes relations between the vessel and Adams & Knickle; business transactions at various ports in the Caribbean, Brazil and Portugal; the salt-cure fish trade; shipping and fishing industry; relations with foreign markets and various shipping agents; and

Records

Series consists of recordings of Gillan auditions, as well as transcriptions of The Rum Runner broadcasts and a collection of Norman Creighton's radio talks entitled A Hantsport Haggis: A Collection of Short Essays by Norman Creighton. Most records have locking grooves between tracks, are in good condition, and have good sound quality. The series consists of two subseries: 1. Gillan Auditions, and 2. The Rum Runners and A Hantsport Haggis.

Thesis

The series consists of a bound copy of Richard Perkyns' doctoral thesis entitled The Impact of the Expressionists Movement on British and American Drama and Theatre Practice . The thesis was submitted in 1968 for the completion of his PhD from London University.

Personal Records

This series consists of records relating to Nicholls’ resignation as the editor of the Canadian Bar Review, material from the conference on editing school law reviews, the Halifax Picture Loan Society and course material from the year spent as a visiting professor at Queen’s University.

This series contains newspaper clippings about the United Textile Workers of America Local 159, receipts, an application for membership with the United Textile Workers of America, an efficiency report for 1969, and a record of proceedings and decision of board referees.

Oland and Son (Que) Limited

Series contains the records of Oland and Son (Que) Limited created between 1949 and 1969. Series is broken into five Sub-Series: Blueprints, Correspondence, Financial, Photographs, and Sales Department.

Blueprints series contains two blueprints of a proposed mezzanine floor.

Correspondence Sub-Series primarily contains correspondence between Oland and Son Limited and various employees of Oland and Son (Que) Limited, but also contains correspondence with various business associates, the Quebec Liquor Commission, and the Quebec Brewers Association.

Financial Sub-Series contains financial statements for the various divisions of Oland and Son (Que) Limited, general ledgers, audited financial statements of the company, and cash books.

Photographs Sub-Series contains photographs of Oland and Son (Que) Limited delivery trucks and an exhibition booth featuring the company.

Sales Department Sub-Series primarily consists of sales reports and expense reports prepared by company sales agents.

Thomas Head Raddall's notebooks

One of the notebooks, a military notebook with a bullet hole through it, belonged to THR's father. The other twenty-four contain information recorded by THR and pertain to a variety of subjects, including the Mackay-Bennett, pulp mill shipments, people, places, folklore, financial accounts, and recreational interests.

Waegwoltic Club

The Waegwoltic Club is a private club in Halifax, Nova Scotia located on the North West Arm. Nicholls was a member, the chairman of public relations and wrote the Flagstaff bulletin for the exclusive club. Types of records in this series include meeting minutes, financial reports, issues of the Flagstaff bulletin, notes and by-law revisions.

Fiction

This series contains eight short stories and seven scripts written by Norman Creighton. Although most of his fiction intended for print was unpublished ("The Day of the Gaspereau" was the exception), two of his plays from this series were produced by CBC ("The Domestic Adviser," "Pamela Joyce"). The short stories tend to have contemporary, rural settings. Although the settings are usually unnamed, it can be assumed that they are based on places in the Annapolis Valley, where Creighton spent the majority of his adult life. Romantic relationships are often the major themes of the short stories. The scripts, which were intended for TV and radio, are also contemporary and set in rural areas, but are thematically concerned with a number of human relationships (not just romantic). The short stories and scripts have been arranged alphabetically by title. The files include draft versions, some of which contain Creighton's editorial notes. A

A.M. Smith and Company's photographs

This series contains a variety of photographs relevant to A.M. Smith and Company. They mostly include ships and views of buildings including A.M. Smith and Co. premises at Halifax, NS and other locations including Prospect, NS, and Newfoundland. There are also an assortment of photographs of individuals, including Fletcher S. Smith in group and portrait shots.

Vessel operations records of the La Have Outfitting Company

This series contains two log books for the Schooner Moran, charters and shipping papers, and a register of vessels leaving and coming into the La Have port between 1959 and 1969. The log books include information regarding the sailing of the Schooner Moran, directions heading and weather reports. The register includes information on where vessels were registered, their agents or masters, tonnage, and where they were sailing to or from. The charters include the name of the vessel, date of the contract, where they are sailing to and from, the captain's name and their cargo.

Dalhousie Vice-Presidency

This series reflects the years and activities by Horace Read as acting Vice-President of Dalhousie University. This series contains mostly correspondence, as well as conference proceedings and honorary citations.
