Most of the research notes are written in notebooks and are associated with a particular topic that Hinds wrote newspaper articles about. Some of the research notes are written in shorthand. Most of the diaries are written in notebooks and are logs of Hinds’ travels, especially her trips to the Canadian Arctic. The series also contains three books about shorthand that belonged to Hinds.

The notebook is divided into sections based on ethnic and Indigenous groups: Irrigwe, Amo, Buji, Jere, Aten Garawuri, Challa (Ron), Ana Guta., Pyem and Jarawa. The notebook contains observations on living, and community structures, language, and names of interviews and interpreters.
