Leather community materials

Series contains materials collected by Al Stewart as part of his involvement with the Halifax-based TightRope leather brotherhood, which was established in the early 1990s, incorporated in 1997, and disbanded in 2007. Series also contains materials related to the Mr. Atlantic Canada Leather [MACLeather] organization, which operated between 1999-2010, and the leather community more broadly. Materials include TightRope administrative and financial records, correspondence, and promotional materials; event cards, flyers, posters, programs, and certificates of participation for TightRope events, MACLeather contests, and leather events across Canada and the United States; photographs of TightRope meet-ups, MACLeather contests, and other leather community events; web print-outs; issues of the Phalia newsletter published by Spearhead leather and denim club in Toronto; erotic gear catalogues; and one copy of the 2002 Men of Pumpjack calendar.

Elephant Winter

Based on the novel by Kim Echlin of the same title, this potential feature film is the story of the elephants and elephant keeper on a wildlife farm allowing a woman to deal with her life. The Divine Ryans

Series consists of records documenting the administrative, creative, financial, legal, production, and publicity and marketing activities of this project. A feature film set in 1960s St. John's, Newfoundland, The Divine Ryans was based on the Wayne Johnston novel of the same name and was the first of Johnston's novels to be made into a feature film. The 90-minute drama tells the story of how young Draper Doyle tries to solve the mystery of his father's death with the help of an eccentric uncle. Johnston also wrote the screenplay. The Divine Ryans was directed by Stephen Reynolds and starred Pete Postlethwaite, Robert Joy, Wendel Meldrum, Mary Walsh, and Jordan Harvey. It was nominated for three Genies and won the Best Actor Award for Jordan Harvey and Best Atlantic Canadian Screenwriting at the Atlantic Film Festival. It was shown at film festivals in Dublin, Vancouver, and Sedona, among others. Files for this production have been fully retained. No One Thinks of Greenland/Guy X

Series consists of records documenting the administrative, creative, financial, legal, production, and publicity and marketing activities of this project. No One thinks of Greenland was a Cold War-era black comedy based on John Griesemer's novel by the same name. Materials in this series document imX's involvement in the pre-production of the film, which was eventually produced and released by another company as Guy X. This series contains agreements, applications, biographies and crew resumes, casting research, correspondence, character descriptions, financial breakdowns and a proposed budget, potential location stills, a provisional schedule, a set listing, and a script.

This series contains records regarding the interactions of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia with a variety of outside organizations and institutions, such as other writers' organizations, federal government departments, and publishers. These records include correspondence, informational material, memos, and press releases. The Federation maintains relationships to other writers' organizations, or those in related fields, in Nova Scotia and elsewhere. The purpose of these relationships is to provide a measurable benefit to the Federation and its membership through the sharing of information and opportunities and the facilitation of joint or cost-sharing programs.

It was about a mysterious woman who bears a striking resemblance to Marilyn Monroe who arrives in town and then disappears mere days before Monroe is found dead in California. The script was written by Conni Massing and Geoff LeBoutillier. This series contains agreements, applications, biographies, a budget, cast lists, correspondence, director's notes, a one-sheet, plans, schedules, scripts, a slate package, and a treatment.

Sweet Angel Mine

Key cast members include Alberta Watson, Anna Massey, and Oliver Milburn. The film won the 1997 International Fantasy Film Special Jury Award. New Waterford Girl

This feature film is a 95-minute comedy that tells the story of coming of age and wanting to go down the road and escape 1970s Cape Breton. This re-telling of a perennial Atlantic Canadian story is now told from the perspective of two girls and the challenges of actually leaving. It was also notable for being written by Tricia Fish as her first script after her year at the Canadian Film Centre. The film was co-produced by Imagex, directed by Allan Moyle, and starred Liane Balaban, Nicholas Campbell, Cathy Moriarty, Andrew McCarthy, Tara Spencer-Nairn, and Mary Walsh. New Waterford Girl was nominated for seven Genie Awards and won best Canadian and Nova Scotia features at the Atlantic Film Festival. It was also screened at film festivals in Berlin, New York, Rotterdam, Sundance, Toronto, and Vancouver. The project was a potential series of thirty-minute animated programs with computer generated backgrounds. It was in pre-development but was never completed. The project was set in the near future and proposed to create the character of a strange but lovable outsider looking for clues about his origins. A companion comic book series was also developed. This potential thirty-minute comedy series of thirteen planned episodes intended to follow three stand-up comedians on the road in Canada, Italy, and Japan. The project was conceived by David Vainola and Ron Thompson and was developed by imX with CTV. It was eventually dropped by the broadcaster. This series contains agreements, biographies, correspondence, budgets, series guides, a schedule, and a one-sheet promotional publication.

North/Northeast Ventures was a branch of imX Communications that owned an interest in the CineSite Film and Television Production Centre in Burnside, Nova Scotia together with other film and television production companies. This series contains agreements, correspondence, a corporate seal, and wind-up of the corporate group.

Pamphlets and outreach materials

Series contains duplicate pamphlets and outreach materials from fonds in the Nova Scotia LGBT Seniors Archive. Materials in series include anti-discrimination pamphlets produced by Lesbian and Gay Rights Nova Scotia [LGRNS], and pamphlets produced by Churchmembers Assembled to Respond to AIDS [CARAS].

Board of Directors

Series consists largely of board meeting minutes, which may include correspondence, biographical sketches and contact information for board members, presentations and occasional papers, committee reports, executive committee meeting minutes, policy circulars, and memoranda. Cultural Federations of Nova Scotia

This series contains records regarding the interactions of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia with the Cultural Federations of Nova Scotia. Materials include agendas and meeting minutes, committee papers, correspondence, memos, press releases, reports, studies, and other documents.

The Cultural Federations of Nova Scotia (or CFNS) was incorporated in 1977 as an alliance of cultural disciplines. There are eight CFNS member federations: Dance Nova Scotia, Federation of Nova Scotian Heritage, The Multicultural Association of Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia Drama League, Nova Scotia Designer Craftsmen, Nova Scotia Choral Federation, Visual Arts Nova Scotia, and the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia.

CFNS was initiated to administer to the physical needs of its members, such as shared office space and equipment. It acts as a broad base of public support for arts and culture.

Air Guitar in Oulu : [film production records]

Series consists of records documenting the creative and legal activities of this project. This quirky one-hour documentary directed by Kent Sobey follows Andrew Buckles on his journey to Oulu, Finland to compete in the World Air Guitar Competition. The film was produced between 2002 and 2003 for Bravo!, and the Independent Film Channel. Geoffrey Turnbull was producer and Chris Zimmer was Executive Producer. Cinematography was done by Les Krizsan. Air Guitar in Oulu received attention from international media and has been compared to such acclaimed films as Project Grizzly and American Movie. This series contains agreements,, a synopsis, and a production overview.

Board of Directors

Series represents the higher-level administrative functions performed by the Board of Directors and the various committees that report to it. Records include biographies and other documents pertaining to board members, minutes from various committees and their attendant reports, and minutes and other documents pertaining to the organization of the Symphony’s Annual General Meetings.

Community, State and Market on the North Atlantic Rim

Series comprises created and collected by Richard Apostle in the course of his study of the crisis in the fishing industries in Northern Norway and Atlantic Canada, which was funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and resulted in the publication of Richard Apostle et al., Community, State and Market on the North Atlantic Rim: Challenges to Modernity in the Fisheries. Record types include grant applications, reports and correspondence; publishing and editorial correspondence; secondary research materials; taped research interviews; manuscripts; and a copy of the published book.

Also known as Puppy Love, this potential feature film co-production with Devine Entertainment in England was eventually made by another co-producer in Ontario. It was released as Bailey’s Billions, about a dog that inherits a fortune. This series contains applications, biographies, budget matters, cast and crew lists, legal matters, schedules, and marketing plans.

Una Casa con Vista al Mar

Series consists of records documenting the administrative, creative, financial, legal, production, publicity, and marketing activities of this project. This Spanish-language drama (with English sub-titles) was a Venezuela/Spain/Canada co-production set in the foothills of the Andes. It tells the story of a widowed father and son surviving amidst the cruelty of their neighbours. The 93-minute drama was written and directed by the Venezuelan director Alberto Arvelo and featured the Canadian actor Gabriel Arcand. The cast also included Imanol Arias and Leandro Arvelo. It won awards at film festivals in Biarritz, Huelva, Havana, Mons, Cartagena, and Friburg and was selected as Venezuela's official entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards in 2002.
