Correspondence files of Frieze and Roy

This series consists of business correspondence to and from Frieze and Roy. The majority of the correspondence is regarding business affairs such as requests of purchases, orders, supplies, sales and shipping, cargo loads, as well as settling of accounts. Only a small percent of the correspondence is personal correspondence from family of Frieze and Roy.

Correspondence from Captain Graham Roome to Annie Belle Hollett

Series consists of letters written from Captain Graham Roome to Annie Belle Hollett while he was travelling on business and, later, in the course of his overseas duty during World War One. Many of the letters are accompanied by their original envelopes, on which are inscribed the letters' dates and those of Annie's responses. There is also a file containing envelopes for which no letters exist. "Captain" was Roome's given name, rather than his military rank, and he was known as "Cap" to his family, friends and business associates. He went on to become an R.A.F. Squadron Leader.

Correspondence of John F. Graham

Series consists of correspondence sent to and by Graham during his time at Dalhousie University and while working on the Graham Report, the Nova Scotia Commission on Education, Public Service and Provincial-Municipal Relations. More correspondence can be found throughout the other series, corresponding to their subject matter.

Correspondence of Acadian Supplies Company

This series contains all general business correspondence. The majority of the correspondence is between Acadian Supply Co. and its clients and shareholders, discussing business, vessels, suppliers or accounts. Clients include the Town of Lunenburg, the Department of Fisheries and The Department of Transport. Suppliers include the Dominion Coal Company, Customold Plastics and Blue Coal Ltd.

Correspondence of Adams and Knickle Limited

Correspondence series consists of Adams & Knickle's general business correspondence and business correspondence concerning its fishing, shipping and vessel operations. The information contained in this series relates to fishing and shipping transactions; relations with both local and foreign agents; shipping events and voyages throughout the Atlantic Ocean; maintenance and refitting of vessels; insurance policies; and legal vessel matters. The Vessel Operations series also contain captain's correspondence and shipping agents' correspondence concerning specific transactions with vessels and events relating to Adams & Knickle vessels.

Correspondence of A.M. Smith and Company

Series contains the business correspondence of A.M. Smith and Co. and the personal correspondence of Albert and Fletcher Smith. The majority of the correspondence is business correspondence that was created by various officers of the company, including Albert Smith (President), Fletcher Smith (Vice-President), Arthur Power (Secretary-Treasurer), Evalds Andersons (Comptroller), and other employees,. Business correspondence is addressed to officers of A.M. Smith and Co. and clients and business partners around the world, but primarily in Central America. The subject of business correspondence covers all aspects of A.M. Smith's operations, including salt fish, fish importing and exporting, pricing and cost sheets, business transactions, shipping routes and schedules, insurance, and other company operations. Correspondence related to Acadian Fisheries, Smith Canneries, real estate ventures, and other business ventures of the Smith family may be extant. The personal correspondence of Albert and Fletcher Smith is also found in this series. Personal correspondence is addressed to various officers of A.M. Smith and Co., family members, and friends, and covers business and family activities.

Correspondence of Arthur Stanley Mackenzie

This series consists of A. Stanley Mackenzie’s general correspondence. Correspondents range from Mackenzie’s colleagues, friends and universities to Dalhousie internal departments and publishers and other organizations. Correspondence covers a wide variety of topics including employment concerns, papers publishing, school applications, etc.

Correspondence of Barbara Hinds

Series contains correspondence to or from Barbara Hinds. The items include correspondence related to Barbara Hinds’ journalism, correspondence related to her activities at the Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine, and personal correspondence. Some of the correspondence is accompanied by newspaper articles, manuscripts, or other documents that were sent to Hinds along with the letters.

Correspondence of Donald Higgins

This series consists of correspondence sent to Higgins regarding the Anglo-Canadian Research Group on Local Government Reform, city development and planning, education and municipal structures. The series also contains draft letters sent to multiple people thanking them for their assistance with projects and seeking updated information on municipalities. Correspondence of E.W. Guptill re. Dalhousie University

Series contains correspondence regarding E.W. Guptill's salary scale throughout his time at Dalhousie University, with the head of the physics department, regarding the Dunn building convocation, E.W. Guptill's sabbatical leave, and correspondence during his time as a member of faculty.

Correspondence of Frank Parker Day

This series contains all correspondence found in the fonds. Due to the broad scope of Day’s correspondence and the sometimes blurry lines that exist between his personal versus business letters, the series is not ordered by subject. Rather, correspondence is ordered chronologically by decade and alphabetically within the decade.

Correspondence of Gargoyle Puppet Theatre

Series is composed of correspondence of the Gargoyle Puppet Theatre, often addressed to James (Jim) MacSwain. The records mainly consist of correspondence from local arts/theatre organizations or thank-you letters for the theatre's performances. There are also some letters regarding agreement for renting space and/or theatre performances.

Correspondence of George E. Smith Company

The foreign letters are a combination of solicited and unsolicited correspondence from their suppliers. These documents are a testament to the short supply of raw materials facing Canadian manufactures during World War I and the steep price increases for these products. Some of these letters express patriotic feelings about supporting Canada in the war.

Correspondence of George Nicholls

This series consists of professional and personal correspondence with Nicholls while he was an editor at the Canadian Bar Review and as a law professor at Dalhousie University. More correspondence can be found throughout the other series related to their subject. Correspondence regarding family estates and wills can be found in the series Family Records.

Correspondence of Guy Henson

This series consists of Guy Henson's general correspondence. Correspondents range from Henson's brother, R.C.C. Henson, to UNESCO to universities, friends and colleagues. Topics covered include letters of introduction, graduate school applications, and employment concerns.

Correspondence of Himmelman Supply Company and Affiliated Companies

Series contains correspondence from Himmelman Supply Company and its affiliated companies, including O.K. Service Shipping Limited, Oakland Shipping Limited, La Have Shipping Limited, Himmelman Shipping Limited, Himmelman Supermarket Limited, La Have Investments Limited, and Nova Hereford Farms. Most records in the series were originally filed with the correspondence of Himmelman Supply Company. Correspondence involves shipping activities, purchases of ships and ship equipment, financial and legal activities of Himmelman Supply Company and its affiliated companies, and other business- related activities. Series also includes a Shipping Contracts and Agreements Sub-Series that contains legal agreements, contracts, and notarized statements that were included with correspondence files. This series contains correspondence predominantly from colleagues. This series also includes correspondence from students as well correspondence pertaining to Horace Read’s appointment to the Order of Canada.

This series contains general correspondence between J. Andrew Wainwright and other Canadian writers. Correspondence regarding Wainwright's manuscripts and publications are included in the Published Works and Unpublished Works series.

Correspondence of James Aitchison

Series consists of correspondence addressed to Aitchison from family, friends, and colleagues covering topics such as the New Democratic Party, Canadian politics, activities in the political science department at Dalhousie, as well as personal and familial correspondence.

Correspondence of Jenny Munday

Series contains correspondence sent and received by Jenny Munday, including letters, email printouts, and greeting cards. The correspondence is about theatre companies; theatre awards; workshops that Munday participated in; jobs that Munday applied for; talent agencies; personal correspondence; and other topics.

Correspondence of John Godfrey

Series contains general correspondence written to and by John Godfrey while he was a faculty member at Dalhousie University and President of the University of King’s College in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Correspondence relating to the History 100 course and Double O Zero Productions Limited can be found in the "Double O Zero Productions Limited" series. More correspondence may be found throughout the fonds in files relating to their subject.

Correspondence of Joyce Barkhouse

Series contains correspondence between Barkhouse and a number of others. It is divided into three subseries: Letters from students, Personal correspondence, and Professional correspondence.

Correspondence of Norman Creighton

This series contains the majority of Norman Creighton's correspondence, all of which is arranged alphabetically by correspondent; the exception is the CBC subseries, which is arranged chronologically. Some correspondence relating to topics covered in Creighton's writing can be found in the research and subject files. The correspondence spans a period of 82 years and includes both incoming and outgoing letters, as well as postcards and greeting cards. Creighton's correspondents were wide-ranging and include family, friends, fellow writers, fans, publishers, and his long-time employer - the CBC. Creighton also corresponded with numerous government departments, libraries, archives, and historical societies to research topics for his magazine articles and radio scripts. Creighton frequently corresponded with his older brother Alan Creighton, local writer Kay Hill, CBC colleague Marjory Whitelaw, and American literary critic Thomas H. Uzzell. At the CBC he often communicated with Ralph Marven, Norval Balch, Harry J. Boyle, and Edgar Bennett. The Maclean's file in the publishers correspondence subseries contains letters from editor Pierre Berton (personal letters from Berton after he left Maclean's are filed separately under his name). In addition to Berton, Creighton corresponded with the following notable individuals: his cousin, folklorist Helen Creighton; Donald Curren, the Executive Director of the Canadian Paraplegic Association (Nova Scotia Division) and member of the Order of Canada; Nova Scotia writers Hugh McClennan, Ernest Buckler, Thomas H. Raddall. These files, however, tend to contain fewer letters over a short period of time.

Correspondence of Nova Scotia Committee to Aid American War Objectors. Halifax Committee to Aid War Resistors

The bulk of this series is correspondence from Americans requesting information on emigration to Canada. Some replies are attached. Also included in this series is the personal correspondence of the director Richard Lind and a series of letters from G. E. Amenta, an American facing deportation from Canada.

Correspondence of Philip Girard

This series consists of personal and professional correspondence by and to Girard regarding research he is conducting, job opportunities, associations and committees, general correspondence with friends and colleagues and academic topics. Correspondence regarding Emma Stirling and Bora Lasking can be found in respective series. Some correspondence may be located in other files related to that topic.

Correspondence of Powers Brothers

Series consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence that was filed separately from the job files. Correspondents include clients, contractors, vendors, personnel, associations, government departments and representatives (both federal and provincial), and insurance companies. Most correspondents were based in Nova Scotia, particularly Lunenburg, but some were located throughout the Atlantic Provinces, Quebec, and Ontario. The correspondence primarily pertains to the Powers Brothers' work in the early 1980s and includes job quotations, client complaints and charge disputes, information about products offered by vendors, and product warranties. The series also contains information about the company's membership and duties in various associations, and some personal letters written by John Powers to members of the community. There is also a file of correspondence by A. F. Powers from the early 1900s, which consists of personal and business letters with local correspondents, job quotations, and invoices. Some material from the series was discarded (namely invoices and unsolicited mail) and the series was arranged alphabetically by archivist. Bulk from 1980 - 1986.
