Wilson Hodder photographs, correspondence, and celebration of life programs

File contains materials related to the life and passing of Wilson Hodder. Hodder was a prominent LGBT activist in Nova Scotia, who successfully petitioned for spousal survivors benefits for same-sex couples under the Canada Pension Plan following the passing of his partner, Terry Martin.

File contains 30 colour photographs taken by Hodder of the 1998 Ottawa Pride parade, three photographs of Hodder and friends, correspondence between Hodder and Mike Sangster, two copies of the program from Hodder's celebration of life, and two program inserts.

File consists of records relating to the Exhibition of William Townsend Paintings 1964-1968 organized by Dalhousie Art Gallery for circulating through A. P. A. C. 1972-1973.

Records consist mainly of correspondence of Ernest Smith (Director, Dalhousie Art Gallery) and handwritten letters from William Townsend and Charlotte Townsend (the daughter of William Townsend). Additional records include shipping receipts, insurance certificates, newspaper clippings, a photograph of the painting 'Cascade VIII' and condition reports.

Wedding at Safe Harbour Metropolitan Community Church

Series contains photographs of the wedding of two unnamed Australian women at Safe Harbour Metropolitan Community Church, located inside the Bloomfield Centre in Halifax. The women were passengers on an R Family Vacations cruise, organized by Rosie O'Donnell for LGBT partners and their families. They travelled to Halifax specifically to marry, and were some of the first same-sex partners married in Nova Scotia. The wedding was officiated by Safe Harbour pastor, Reverend Darlene Young, and was witnessed by Dr. Brenda Hattie and Young's partner Mun Lei.

Collection contains over 55,000 glass plate negatives, film negatives, and prints from the Waldren Studios of New Glasgow and Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The majority of these negatives are portraits, nearly all of which are identified and dated. A number of the portraits represent some of the earliest photos of Black Nova Scotians from Pictou, Antigonish and Guysborough counties. Many of the remaining photos are local scenes, a few of which were taken in New Glasgow before the fire in 1874 which devastated the town. The collection contains photographs that depict show coal mining, shipbuilding and other local industries in action. Portraits of family groups, sports teams, social clubs and school groups are also well represented.

File contains a photograph of a group of people congregated in someone's home in front of a piano. "Helmut Blume" is inscribed on the reverse side of the photograph in pencil. Helmut Blume taught piano at McGill University from 1946 and became dean of the Faculty of Music in 1964.

Tom Sherman : cultural engineering

File consists of records relating to an exhibition of artwork by Tom Sherman entitled Cultural Engineering organized and circulated by the National Programme, National Gallery of Canada. The exhibition was presented at the Dalhousie Art Gallery from September 22 to October 30, 1983. The exhibition consisted of audio installations, photographic and text panels, as well as a programme of video tapes by the artist.

Records consist of correspondence, insurance files, a loan agreement, a list of works, photocopies of magazine articles featuring Tom Sherman, photographs, and an invitation to exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada (May 1983).
