Grace Maternity Hospital in Halifax (now the IWK), owned and operated by the Salvation Army, had just given its official sanction for the procedure, but with the condition that only married women be served in line with their belief that only heterosexual, two parent, legally sanctioned couples should raise children. The Grace was the only Salvation Army hospital in Canada at the time with this clinic, and women's groups had been protesting the threat to women's right to control reproduction. The interview was conducted by CKDU's Donna Mayer. The episode was recorded on September 3, 1987, and was broadcast on September 10, 1987.
