Fonds includes items dealing with the invention of and patenting of a hydraulic gold extractor first registered in 1887. Also involves setting up a company to use the machine and begin gold mining. The material covers a period of 1883 to 1905, and involves many individuals in the business and legal community of Halifax and the South Shore. It also includes the original patent with the specification and diagrams, other diagrams, a 31 page hand written report by Westhaver on his trip to Dawson City, Yukon in 1902 to test his separator. A very interesting collection of letters, documents, legal correspondence, governmental material, etc., etc., dealing with the starting of a company to use the gold separate and Westhaver's various difficulties with financing and control.
Item is one 1763 receipt to John Michie for £5992.19 interest or share in the capital or joint stock of consolidated four per cent annuities charged on the sinking fund.

The fonds consists of architectural plans, Bass River picnic files, correspondence and invoices, counter books, customer and employee records, export papers, interest books, journals, ledgers, legal documents, merchandise invoices, photographs, printed materials, reports and shareholder papers, sales books/journals, sales invoice copy books, statement books, and stock inventories, spanning over 100 years from 1870 to 1975. These materials illustrate accounting methods, the production of and market for chairs, shipping processes, relationships with other companies and the community, etc. The majority of the fonds consists of correspondence and invoices, both to and from Dominion Chair, including orders for company goods, for factory equipment, and items to stock the general store. Together the items are useful in understanding the organizational structure, management, and operations of the Dominion Chair Company, and provide insight into business operations in Nova Scotia throughout the late 19th and 20th centuries.

Fonds contains a ledger from Vernon Simpon's general store in Simpson's Corner, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. The ledger book contains entries from 1929-1930. It was also used as a notebook, with miscellaneous notes entered until 1976. Fonds also contains a letter to Mrs. Vernon Simpson (Olive Eliza Simpson) from Robert H. Winters, Ottawa, November 30, 1953. The letter is a reply to Mrs. Simpson's letter about changes to mail delievery in Simpson's Corner, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. The file with the letter also contains an order form from Veribest Speciality Company and two copies of handwritten minutes of a Community Club meeting held on November 15, 1951.
Fonds contains John Jenkins' ledger dating 1893-1994, repurposed as a journal from 1936-1942 by Harry S. Jenkins. Fonds also includes cheque book, an agreement of sale, a photocopy of Harry S. Jenkins' will, and miscellaneous invoices and sales slips.
File contains papers of the SS Corfu Island, including a survey of the vessel from March 4, 1953, a list of crew members from July 11, 1957 to May 14, 1960, and miscellaneous papers from 1956, 1961, and 1962.

Family records include estate papers, and records created and collected during David Frieze's tenure as a justice of the peace for Hants County, as well as electoral records and records created by Maitland Presbyterian Church, Sons of Temperance, and the Maitland School.
Fonds comprises documents illustrating the business interests of James Edward Dickie and his family. The majority of records date from James E. Dickie and his son Edwin's ownership of the Stewiacke general store, there is a single letter-book dated 1924, during which time James R. Fulton managed the store. Records fall into three main categories: business records related to companies owned by the Dickies; personal and business correspondence; and personal records of the Dickie family.

This material spans almost 60 years and gives insight into a company which changed hands several times, and also represented an important part of Nova Scotia industry. Through the material one is able to get a complete picture of the process of manufacturing pulp, from acquiring timber and land to machinery and labour used, to exporting the end product; it also demonstrates how business was conducted. Fonds demonstrates the organizational structure, management, and operations of the Scott Paper company, and provide insight into business operations in Nova Scotia in the 20th century.

Item is a diary kept by Arthur H. Whitman that describes a trip to England between November, 30 1888 and January 17, 1889. The diary contains daily entries that describe Whitman's activities, church attendance, meals, business and social visits, and letters sent and received. Many entries describe his meetings about apples. The diary also records money received and paid.
Item is the premiere issue (Vol. 1, No. 1) of "The Comet," a handwritten newspaper published in Osborne, Nova Scotia on January 19, 1900. The issue covers topics such as the Boer War, county news, gossip and poetry.

It includes correspondence, legal and financial documents, diaries and memoirs, and photographs that document primarily the family's shipbuilding activities as well as the genealogical interests of John Robert Bigelow.
