Biographical history
Jonathan Borden Marsh was born in 1841 in Economy, Nova Scotia to Jacob Marsh and Jennie McLellan. He spent his life at sea, ending up as a Master Mariner. In 1863 he married Christianna Munroe, with whom he had at least one child, William Campbell Marsh. He passed away in Economy in 1934 at the age of ninety-two.
Custodial history
The materials were accessioned by Dalhousie University Archives in 1970. Prior to that, the records were in the custody of the MacMechan Estate.
Scope and content
Fonds consists of Marsh's account book with the barque Vibilia and her owners (1869-1882) as well as pilot and customs papers. Also included is a charter contract for the Ellerslie (1886).
