Autographs and letters from various composers

File includes a postcard with a black and white photograph of Pietro Mascagni (1863-1945), an Italian opera composer. The postcard has various signatures on the front, including Francesco Marconi (1855-1916, operatic tenor from Rome) and four other illegible signatures. The postcard is addressed to Frau Dr. Lehnsern(?) of Berlin. File also includes the incipits of three pieces by Ignaz Moscheles (1794-1870), signed at dated October 3, 1844. There are also five letters written by the following composers: Jacques Offenbach (1879), Gustav Mahler (1899), Edvard Grieg (1902), Maurice Ravel (1921), and Ignacy Paderewski (n.d., 1860-1941).

Beaver study correspondence

File is loosely organized into two sections: Nova Scotia beaver and Norway beaver. Both sections contain correspondence to and from government officials, biologists, academics, and industry consultants regarding research for and publication of Alexander Leighton's study on beaver mental characteristics. The Norway section also contains excerpts from Norwegian newspapers. There is also a set of handwritten notes titled "Outline for study of the Beaver: D. Cross & A.H. Leighton."

Bernard Chaudron

File consists of records related to the exhibition 'objets d'art' by Bernard Chaudron, presented at the Dalhousie Art Gallery in October 1969 as part of the Atlantic Provinces Art Circuit.

Records consist of a list of artworks and prices, a list of purchased works including a note about a stolen piece, a condition report, correspondence between Evelyn Holmes (Acting Curator, Dalhousie Art Gallery) and Ghislain Clermont (Curator, Art Gallery of the University of Moncton), and a handwritten transcription of Chaudron's biographical notes.

Includes John F. Sokol's paper "factors that have conditioned Mexican political patterns", a Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea newsletter attached to a note from Prof. Dr. Barbara Kwiatkowska addressed to Ronald St. John Macdonald and a United Nations general assembly resolution of January 2000.

Colonial office correspondence

File consists of handwritten notes on correspondence between the Colonial Office in London, England, and administrative officials including Frederick Lugard and Charles Lindsay Temple. The notes were compiled from correspondence from the Public Record Office by James Morrison during the 1970's in Nigeria.

Correspondence sent from Major S.G. Chown, Colonel H.M. Robertson, and Lt.-Col. H.E. Randall.

Correspondence from Charles F. Towle

File contains an advertisement and pamphlet on the plays presented by the Stratford-upon-Avon Players at the Princess Theatre in Toronto as part of their first American Tour. Charles F. Towle was the business director of the tour.

Correspondence from Florence Glossop-Harris

File contains three letters from the British actress Florence Glossop-Harris as well as a short resume of her career. One of the letters and the resume are transcribed and typeset. The letters were all written in response to correspondence from Logan on her performance in various plays. Three of the letters are written on letterhead from The Florence Glossop-Harris Company. The file also includes four postcards feature Glossop-Harris, which were sent to Logan.

French paintings exhibition

File consists of records relating to organization, planning, and preparation for the exhibition 'French Painting 1840-1924' organized and circulated by the National Gallery of Canada and presented at the Dalhousie Art Gallery in February and March of 1971.

Records consist of correspondence, condition reports from Dalhousie Art Gallery and others, accompanying texts for the exhibition including a bibliography, recommended film screenings, readings, and descriptive texts; an exhibition loan agreement, docent agreements, lists of artworks and biographical information, and a newspaper clipping.

Fritz Brandtner 1896-1969

File consists of records related to presenting the exhibition 'Fritz Brandtner 1896-1969: A Retrospective Exhibition', sponsored by Sir George Williams University, Montreal. The exhibition was presented at Dalhousie Art Gallery in February 1972, through circulation in the Atlantic Provinces Art Circuit (APAC).

Records consist of a condition report and handwritten condition notes, an essay on Brandtner's work, an itinerary, and correspondence between Dalhousie Art Gallery and other APAC member galleries.

Garber, Paul

File contains two letters written by Bishop Paul N. Garber (of Geneva, Switzerland), and one response from Kenneth Leslie, dated March and April 1946. The first letter, dated March 7, 1946, from Garber, informs Leslie of his meeting in Warsaw with Stefan Molski, a correspondent for Leslie's publication The Protestant, and discusses the current tenuous Polish political situation. The response from Leslie, dated April 11, 1946, inquires as to whether Bishop Garber would be willing contribute an article to The Protestant, and gauging Garber's interest in serving as an adviser of the publication's Editorial Board. Garber's response, dated April 17, 1946. affirms his interest in serving as an editorial adviser, but warns that he will also be "very busy" given his need to attend "four annual conferences [held] in rapid succession in Switzerland, Belgium, Czechoslovakia and Poland."

File consists of records related to the exhibition 'Jordaens', a significant exhibition of Jacob Jordaens' paintings organized by the National Gallery of Canada and presented at Dalhousie Art Gallery in October 1969.

Records consist of an invitation, a calendar of events for the National Gallery for the period of November 15, 1968 to January 15, 1969, correspondence of Evelyn Holmes (Acting Curator, Dalhousie Art Gallery) including letters regarding the safety of the Jordaens' artworks during blasting activities on campus, including seismographic data, newspaper clippings regarding the exhibition, including one titled 'Jordaens Canvas Displayed After Shock Test', descriptive exhibition text provided by the National Gallery of Canada, a copy of 'Jordaens and Flemish Opulence' from Flemish Painting Volume 2, and three National Gallery press releases.
