The book begins as a guest book for the year 1888 for Clifton House, owned by Jacob G. Locke. As many pages are loose it is unclear whether the pages containing the newspaper clippings are in the right place. Some pages with newspaper clippings have had the articles torn out, leaving part of the clipping behind. The book then turns into a child's sketchbook, with several children practicing drawing and writing out sentences and names.
