Erie and Superior Community Project

Subseries contains records created and collected by Gil Winham during his work on the Erie and Superior Community Project, which analyzed the capacity of ten Ontario communities to manage water quality. This project was initiated by Gil Winham and P.A. Globensky, funded by the Government of Canada, and located at McMaster University, where Winham was teaching. Records types include correspondence; grant applications; research materials; a copy of the final report; and a subsequent analysis of the project data.

Talbot; several typed drafts of newspaper articles about the rehabilitation centre; a pamphlet about the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre; and a document called "Preliminary Report on Planning for Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Center and Faculty of Allied Health Professions Dalhousie University." The file also includes newspaper clippings from the Chronicle-Herald and Mail-Star of articles written by Barbara Hinds about the rehabilitation centre.

Data analysis

Subseries includes data for and analyses of socioeconomic aspects of Yoruba women's lives (education, migration, social class, health, children, husbands, religion, family, etc.). The 1963 data seems to be part of another study, referred to in several files as "The 1963 study on the role of Yoruba women," that either piggybacked off the Cornell-Aro study or was somehow included as a sub-project.

The fonds consists of records that document the administrative and operational activities of the Faculty of Medicine. Correspondence and other papers about the Africville relocation study

File contains correspondence between researchers and other people involved in a study on the forced migration of residents of Africville. The study was conducted by Don Clairmont and Dennis Magill in the late 1960s. Items include correspondence between employees at the Institute of Public Affairs at Dalhousie University (including Dennis Magill and Donald Clairmont) and people from the Halifax Department of Welfare, the Office of the City Manager of Halifax, the family court for the County of Cape Breton, the National Harbours Board, Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Halifax Herald Limited, the University of Toronto School of Social Work, and the Canadian Special Senate Committee on Poverty. The file also contains memorandums from the Institute of Public Affairs; research diaries and notes about interviews; a letter template; an invitation list and list of attendees for a meeting for the Africville relocation study; classification categories for Africville Typology; and a blank questionnaire for the study.

File contains correspondence from the Canadian Labour Congress, National Commission on Human Rights, regarding housing and employment matters, to two residents of Africville who were later human subjects who participated in a study on the forced migration of residents of Africville. The study was conducted by Don Clairmont and Dennis Magill in the late 1960s. File also contains agenda from Halifax city council meeting and draft of a report.

The papers include typed notes; notes about the selection of 20 families used in the case studies; letters sent to interviewers involved in the case studies; a list of households; and the interviewers' recorded impressions of Africville before and after interviewing.
