Correspondence related to the University of Ibadan and James Morrison

File contains a record of correspondence that detail James and Sheila Morrison's life in Nigeria from 1969 to 1975. The file consists of correspondence mainly concerning James Morrison's academic life at University of Ibadan. The correspondence includes applications for employment positions and articles, as well as personal letters. The file contains over 100 letters with different correspondents, including many from universities across Canada.

Publication invoices

File contains an assortment of invoices, correspondence, and change of address notices that James Morrison sent and received from 1973-1974 in Nigeria and in Colchester County, Nova Scotia. The file holds publication invoices from Blackwell's and Cambridge University Press, hand written correspondence from James Morrison to his wife Sheila Morrison, and bank statements from several Nigerian banks.

Atlantic oral history conference papers

Item consists of a bound compilation of the papers from the first Atlantic Oral History Conference hosted in Truro, Nova Scotia from October 19-21, 1979. Debert bunker : by invitation only / Liz MacDougall

Item is a 30-minute video produced and directed by Liz MacDougall while she was a member at the Centre for Art Tapes and a student at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

In this video documentary, set outside a military base in Debert, Nova Scotia on 29 February 1984, five women's Peace groups converge to call attention to an Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) test drill coordinated with multiple NATO bunkers simulating a nuclear attack on North America. For this drill, selected officials (329 men and only 11 women) were invited into Debert’s underground bunker.

At its core, NATO’s goal during a nuclear attack was to maintain continuity of Government with no provision for the protection of the population they govern. Outside the bunker, members of five non-violent feminist activist groups point out, through street theatre, rituals, waving signs and shouting, the deadly irony of this NATO strategy to rehearse for nuclear war.

Inter-cut with scenes of the day-long protest are interviews with representatives from each group comically punctuated with news footage, photographs, live radio, and film clips explaining nuclear defense strategy. Throughout this day of action women debunk the NATO strategy which would have us believe we can survive nuclear war and ultimately demand an end to the nuclear threat and to militarism.

The documentary features interviews with John Bouris, Ginny Green, Kate McKenna, Donna Smyth, Deborah Westerberg, and CBC’s Peter Gzowski interviewing Dr. Mutandis (played by Pat Kipping) live on location at Debert.

Documentary video was originally produced on U-matic 3/4 inch tape. MacDougall digitally remastered the video in 2014.

The episode features Judy Davis, who focuses on environmental, social justice, feminist, and workers' struggles in Nova Scotia, discussing a blockade in Tatamagouch. The episode aired on September 8, 1988, and was rebroadcasted on September 12, 1988 at 5:30PM.

Living his heritage : [news clipping]

Item is a newspaper clipping from the Chronicle Herald entitled Living his heritage and written by Leslie Smith in 1988 about James Morrison's time in Nigeria. The article details Morrison's personal and professional life and contains several photographs of Morrison in Nigeria. The item is pages three to six of Volume 7, Number 6 of the Chronicle Herald.

File is an audio reel containing an interview with Judy Davis on clear-cutting on Spiddle Hill, near Tatamagouche. Davis, a member of the Scott boycotting committee protesting the clear-cutting, spoke with CKDU's Jay McLean on September 19, 1989.The interview was rebroadcast October 3, 1989 on Title Waves and October 5, 1989 on The Evening Affair.

Cassettes features recording of The Secret Furies performance at Truro Women's and Children's Dance on October 25, 1991. Handel's Messiah
