Catalogue cards

Subseries contains catalogue cards used by James Morrison during the creation of his thesis on the Jos Plateau. The catalogue cards are used as indexes, bibliography of references, and contact information.

Autographs

Subseries contains autographs of musicians, some of which are on concert programs. These concert programs also frequently contain annotations by J.D. Logan about the music performed. Most of the autographs would have been obtained from the musician directly by John Daniel Logan, with the exception of the autograph of the American pianist and composer Louis Morceau Gottschalk (1829-1869) and that of the French operatic soprano Marie Rôze Mapleson (1846-1926).

International music and theatre programs

Subseries contains programs from concerts that John Daniel Logan outside of Canada, predominantly at venues in the United States and the United Kingdom. Many of the programs include annotations by Logan.

Thomas Head Raddall's loose photographs

Subseries consists of loose photographs taken between 1870 and 1987 by Raddall and others. Some of the photographs are reproductions of originals, and some are either duplicates from, or related to the materials contained in Thomas Head Raddall's photograph albums. The subseries title is taken from a previous finding aid. Subjects include images of Raddall in his career as a wireless operator and media productions based on his authorial work; Raddall and others on hunting and fishing trips; Raddall's family and friends; postcards from family and friends; a vacation through Europe; highlights from T.H. Raddall, Sr.'s military career and legacy across Canada, Europe, and Asia; historical artifacts collected by Raddall or used for his manuscripts, including photographs of Grey Owl; historic moments from the cable-ship Mackay-Bennett including the yacht race for the America Cup in the New York Harbour and offering relief efforts in the wake of the Titanic accident; historic locations around Nova Scotia, including Liverpool and the Simeon Perkins House Museum, Milton, Fort Beausejour, the Fortress of Louisbourg, and the gold mines at Molega, as well as locations in Newfoundland, New Hampshire, and Europe.

Subseries contains programs from concerts that John Daniel Logan attended in Canada, excluding Nova Scotia, predominantly at venues in Toronto and Montreal. Many of the programs include annotations by Logan.

Photographs

Subseries contains photographs of famous musicians, composers, and actors, many of which are autographed. The photographs were obtained by John Daniel Logan in his capacity as a concert reviewer and for his personal collection. Many of the photographs were sent by the musicians and actors at his request, as evidenced by his correspondence with them.

Records from the Africville relocation project

Subseries contains records created during a study of the forced migration of residents of Africville. The study was sponsored by the Nova Scotia Department of Public Welfare, in association with the Department of National Heath and Welfare, and conducted by Don Clairmont and Dennis Magill for the Institute of Public Affairs (project number 552-21-2). Records in this subseries primarily document the research activities of Don Clairmont and Dennis Magill that led to the publication of the 1971 Africville relocation report. Materials include genealogical information on former residents of Africville, responses to a questionnaire run by Don Clairmont and Dennis Magill , interview files, newspaper clippings, sound recordings, correspondence, and other material.
