Series contains exhibition files created by the Dalhousie Art Gallery. Exhibition files contain administrative records that document the planning and promotion of exhibitions presented at the Dalhousie Art Gallery from its inception in 1953 to the present day. Some known exhibitions do not have corresponding exhibition files, but the series provides a comprehensive record of the gallery's exhibitions.

Activities documented in exhibition files vary, but typically include transportation and insurance of exhibited works of art, compensation and accommodations for artists or curators, preparation of promotional material and exhibition catalogues, organization of public events, and coordination of touring exhibitions. Exhibition files may include correspondence, insurance documents, contracts, invoices, invitations, interdepartmental memos, floor plans, lists of artworks, handling instructions, condition reports, photographs, newspaper clippings, reviews, and other material.

Records include a memo from Alex S. Mowat (Chairman of the Dalhousie Art Committee) calling for submissions for the fifth annual showcase of artworks by students, staff, and alumni of Dalhousie University, held in April 1958; and a list of names and prices of artworks shown in the Canadian Medical Association Annual Convention's 'Exhibition of Paintings by Nova Scotian Artists', hosted by Dalhousie University in June 1958.

File consists of records relating to the exhibition ‘Exhibition of Paintings by Ruth Wainwright’, held at the Dalhousie Art Gallery in October 1965, as part of the National Gallery of Canada's 'Know Your Artist' series. Correspondence in the file additionally records the transition of leadership of the Dalhousie Art Gallery from Dr. Mirko Usmiami to Mrs. Evelyn Holmes

File consists of two catalogues for 'Exhibition of rubbings from ancient Egyptian, Mesopotamian and Hittite reliefs by Nelly B. Gray', organized and presented at Dalhousie Art Gallery in August 1972.

The catalogue in Folder 21 is a draft while Folder 22 contains the final draft. Contents include a biography of Gray, catalogue of works, and exhibition essay. Catalogue in Folder 22 also contains a photograph of Gray.
