Nasca lines

Subseries contains the conductor’s score, instrumental, and vocal parts used for the premiere performance of Nasca Lines by Barry Guy. Nasca Lines is a one-hour, seven-part work that was commissioned by the Upstream Ensemble and premiered in collaboration with the Symphony Nova Scotia on June 3, 2001 at the Scotia Festival with conductor and composer, Barry Guy.

The composition is named after and inspired by the geoglyphs in the Nazca Desert, Peru, which include outlines of animals and various geometric shapes. Graphical representations of a selection of these geoglyphs are used in the graphic notation of this score, particularly in parts 3 and 7.

Nasca Lines is an atonal work that uses a combination of composed material, based on tone rows and pitch class sets, and guided improvisation. There are twenty instrumental parts and one vocal part.

Nathan Lyons : notations in passing, 1970

File consists of catalogues for the exhibition 'Notations in Passion, 1970: Photographs by Nathan Lyons from the collection of the National Gallery of Canada', circulated by the National Gallery of Canada between 1971-1972. The exhibition was presented at Dalhousie Art Gallery in August 1972.

Catalogues contain an exhibition statement by Lyons, an introduction essay by James Borcoman, a catalogue, 12 b&w plates of Lyon's photographs, a chronological biography and C.V., and a selected bibiography. All text is provided in both English and French.

National Research Council building architectural plans

File contains architectural drawings for the National Research Council Laboratory and for the Institute for Marine Biosciences on Oxford Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The 1949 drawings, produced by Leslie Fairn and C. Gustave Brault, include plot plans; footings; floor plans; interior room and finish schedules; sections and details; and plumbing, heating and electrical plans. The 1964 and 1979 drawings are for additions and extensions, and were produced by Duffus, Romans, Kundzins and Rounsefell Ltd. The file also includes a set of drawings printed at reduced scale for a submission by Lydon Lynch issued September 2002 for a National Research Council New Industry Partnership Facility Institute for Marine Biosciences.
