Item is a sixteenth century ola, or palm leaf manuscript. The pages are held together with a cord, silver medallion, and lacquered wood covers painted with line drawings. The manuscript is part of "The Casey A. Wood Medical Collection of Sinhalese Materia Medica" (item number 225).

THE CASEY A. WOOD HISTORICAL COLLECTION OF SINHALESE MATERIA MEDICA
This collection, made mostly in India and Ceylon during 1925-1933, has been partly described in articles contributed to the Annals of Medical History, 1926, entitled “Ayurvedic Medicine in Ancient and Medieval Ceylon” by Casey A. Wood; and by Dr. Andreas Nell of Kandy under “Olas or Book Manuscripts and how They were Made.”

A Vederala’s note book (an ola) on the treatment of a variety of diseases. Fine calligraphy and quite rare. The lacquered covers, the cord, and the silver medallion are modern, made by Kandyan artists after antique models. Ca. 1580 A.D.
