Sperry residence real estate appraisals

File contains real estate valuation reports on the Sperry property from 1992, 2003, 2005 and 2015. There is also a four-page narrative recounting the initial build and subsequent renovations of the house.

Nener residence

Fonds contains architectural drawings created by Drew Sperry as a student at Nova Scotia Technical College and later as a certified architect. His student work comprises presentation drawings, while the designs for his own home in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and two other residential commissions include both presentation and construction drawings. There are two folders of textual records, which comprise a transcript of an interview with Drew and Sheila Sperry, real estate appraisals of their Dartmouth residence, and early budget breakdowns from Sperry's architectural practice.

National Research Council building architectural plans

File contains architectural drawings for the National Research Council Laboratory and for the Institute for Marine Biosciences on Oxford Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The 1949 drawings, produced by Leslie Fairn and C. Gustave Brault, include plot plans; footings; floor plans; interior room and finish schedules; sections and details; and plumbing, heating and electrical plans. The 1964 and 1979 drawings are for additions and extensions, and were produced by Duffus, Romans, Kundzins and Rounsefell Ltd. The file also includes a set of drawings printed at reduced scale for a submission by Lydon Lynch issued September 2002 for a National Research Council New Industry Partnership Facility Institute for Marine Biosciences.

Student Union Building addition construction drawings

File contains a construction package set of drawings for a 2002 addition to the original Student Union Building at Dalhousie University. The drawings were produced by Fowler Bauld and Mitchell, Campbell Comeau Engineering and Morris & Richard Consulting Engineers. Box contains prints, slides, negatives, and proof sheets of photographs of Dalplex construction; Dalplex roof; aerial photographs of Studley Campus; signage on Studley Campus; the Life Sciences Centre; the Forrest Building; houses on Henry Street; and other buildings. Box also contains an entry for the 1980 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards by R.L. Booth of Carruthers & Wallace Limited and a presentation about stainless steel meniscus roofs. The photographs are stored in binders.

Fonds consists of administrative files, community involvement details, contract records, correspondence, employee records, financial documents, job estimates and job files, legal documents, photographs, plans, printed material, notes on solar heating projects, sound recordings, and union/association documents, as well as a series with material from the Murphy and Wharton Company. This material spans over 100 years from 1858 to 1987, and illustrates how business was conducted (meetings, annual reports, accounting and financial statements) and the relationship with the community (both charitable and with other businesses). There are also very detailed accounts of the work done by the company, from initial quotes through to project planning, blueprints, product literature, and finishing. Together the items demonstrate the organizational structure, management, and operations of the Powers Brothers company. These items provide insight into business operations in Nova Scotia throughout the late 19th and 20th centuries.

Renovations and extensions to 6152 Coburg Road

File contains copies of drawings for 6152 Coburg Road, including 1967-68 plans for renovations and extensions to the building when it served as the Nova Scotia College of Art, and 1980 renovation plans when the building was occupied by Dalhousie University School of Management. All three sets of drawings were produced by C.A. Fowler Bauld & Mitchell Ltd. File also contains a list of set ID arrangement details.

(Ted) Brown, prominent over the years in Alumni Association activities and currently an association representative on the university's Board of Governors, was elected president of the Nova Scotia Association of Architects at its annual meeting last month. James G. Sykes, Director of Planning and Development at the university, was elected a councillor of the association."
