One hundred years of Dalhousie, 1818-1918

Item is the second printing of a short history of Dalhousie produced by the Centenary Committee to celebrate the university's first century. Arthur Lismer was commissioned to produce the illustrations, which comprise 27 reproductions of pen and ink sketches of people and buildings integral to the history of the university. The first printing of the book included a misspelling of the middle name of Dalhousie's then Chairman of the Board of Governors as George "Stuart" Campbell (versus "Stewart"), and the books were rejected by the Centenary Committee, resulting in a second printing. The existence of the misprinted copies is due to their purchase at a steep discount by the Dalhousie Million Campaign Committee, whose correspondence with the same printers regarding their campaign literature includes a letter stating "... if the price were attractive a way might be found to use them" (UA-3, Box 621, Folder 6 ).
