Fonds consists of materials collected by Ronald Justin Inness about ships and shipping companies, including pamphlets, manuscripts, clippings, and correspondence. Fonds also contains manuscripts written by Ronald Justin Inness about the Innes' genealogy.
File contains three drawings of proposed modifications for the Bluenose II. The drawings include a diagram of the existing electrical arrangement with proposed modifications; two copies of a drawing of a proposed modification to the propulsion shafting; and two copies of a proposed schematic diagram of electrical distribution. All of the drawings were completed at the Halifax Shipyards in 1965. See MS-4-135, Box 128, Folder 16 and Box 153, Folder 3 for related documents.
File consists of genealogical notes on the Rettie family of Truro, Nova Scotia, with a particular focus on Captain Alexander Rose Rettie and the wreck of his vessel "Forest Chief." Also included are a family tree, photocopies of research correspondence, and historical newspaper accounts.
The accession contains index cards originally stored in 10 small plastic boxes and 1 long cardboard box. The cards were created by Trevor Bebb and contain entries from various shipping registers. The cards describe vessels, captains, and sailors. The accession also contains two oversized ledgers from the nineteenth century and several manuscript sheets of poetry. One plastic box was empty when it entered the archives.
Series contains photographs, portraits, prints, and postcards of sea captains and ships. Most of the material has notes by Everett Macdougall on the verso. These notes contain information about the origins and builders of the ships as well as biographical information about the sea captains in the portraits.
