Item is a transcription to English of the twenty-eighth paragraph in a letter that Richard Wagner wrote to his publisher in 1872. This transcription was presumably sent by William Somerset Maugham to Ellen Ballon with a letter.

In the forest : four piano compositions, Op. 12

File contains copies of each of the four compositions: "Titania's Waltz"'; "Weeping Willows"; "In the Rushes"; and "Soughing Pines." The work was dedicated to Paolo Gallico (1868–1955). Each piece bears an inscription to Ellen Ballon, Goldmark's student in 1909. The pieces were published by the Oliver Ditson Company in Boston in 1908.

Item is the original score inscribed to Ellen Ballon by Alberto Jonas. Ballon was one of Jonás' students in New York from c. 1916 until 1925.

Item is a copy of the first edition of Igor Stravinsky's piano arrangement of his ballet, "The Firebird." The ballet was written for the Ballets Russes in Paris, under the direction of Sergei Diaghilev. The piano arrangement was published shortly after the premiere performance on June 25, 1910 at the Théâtre National de l'Opéra.

Marche funèbre, Op. 35 : exécutée aux funérailles de l'auteur

Item is a copy of the first separate edition of Marche funèbre from Chopin's Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor. The separated third movement was played as Chopin's body was conveyed to the mausoleum on October 30, 1849, and was subsequently released as a separate publication, using the original plates (891) by Troupenas. The file includes a folder and brief description of the work from Scribner.

Ronde pour orchestre : reduction pour piano

Item is a piano arrangement of one of the folk songs from "Huits Chants Populaires pour Orchestre" by Anatoly Lyadov (also spelled Liadov), which was originally written in 1905. The score is dated August 15, 1916 at San Sebastien and accompanied by a note from Scribner's publishing house that the score is an original manuscript of the composer's arrangement for pianoforte solo. However, Liadov died August 28, 1914. The publisher's note also indicates that it was previously part of the collection of Serge Diaghileff (Diaghilev).

Item is an unsolicited manuscript reproduction of a piano sonata by David Willens, sent to Ellen Ballon by the Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Music on December 18, 1959. File includes a letter from the Society to Ellen Ballon. The composition was "dedicated to the memory of Alexander Guroff."

File contains the sheet music for "Keep on Hopin'" with words by Frank Stanton and piano music by Kathleen Heron-Maxwell. The score is inscribed to Ellen Ballon and dated June 18, 1935. The score was published in three keys, C Major, E-flat Major, and F-Major. This version is in E-flat Major.

File contains two audio reels (0.7 cm tape), recorded by Marvin Burke, documenting black music in Nova Scotia. Tapes include recordings of The New Road Community Group (March 21, 1967), The Easter Sunday Sunrise Service at Seaview Baptist Church (March 26, 1967), and Seaview Baptist Church, Africville (May 21, 1967).

The episode was presented by Dr. Walter Kemp, chairman of the Department of Music at Dalhousie University, and pianist and professor Lynn Stodola. Nasca lines

Subseries contains the conductor’s score, instrumental, and vocal parts used for the premiere performance of Nasca Lines by Barry Guy. Nasca Lines is a one-hour, seven-part work that was commissioned by the Upstream Ensemble and premiered in collaboration with the Symphony Nova Scotia on June 3, 2001 at the Scotia Festival with conductor and composer, Barry Guy.

The composition is named after and inspired by the geoglyphs in the Nazca Desert, Peru, which include outlines of animals and various geometric shapes. Graphical representations of a selection of these geoglyphs are used in the graphic notation of this score, particularly in parts 3 and 7.

Nasca Lines is an atonal work that uses a combination of composed material, based on tone rows and pitch class sets, and guided improvisation. There are twenty instrumental parts and one vocal part.

6 of one : performance instructions

Item is the instructions for Norman Adams' improvisational composition, "6 of one," for performance by Adams (cello); Suzanne Lemieux (oboe); Jeff Reilly (bass clarinet and clarinet); and Paul Cram (tenor saxophone and clarinet). The composition has an approximate tonality of D and textual instructions regarding rhythm, entrances, intervallic relationships of parts, dynamics, range, and timbre.

The composition is for violin, bassoon, piano, guitar, and oboe and lacks a clear tonal centre and meter.The last section is a canon between the violin and bassoon.

Bauer divided the instruments into three groups: (1) guitar, oboe, piano, violin; (2) violin, viola, cello, xylophone; and (3) bass clarinet, electric bass, and acoustic bass. The composition alternates between 3/8,4/8, 5/8, 6/8, 7/8, 8/8, 9/8, 10/8, and 12/8 at a tempo of 100 eighth-notes per minute. The score is printed on the back of Bauer's resume.
