Reports of the Nova Scotia Crop Development Institute

Subseries contains records created by the Nova Scotia Crop Development Institute. The NSCDI was established by the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture and Marketing for the purpose of coordinating and conducting investigative studies associated with forage, grain and vegetable production. Of the nine member of the Board of Directors, two members were to be from the Plant Science Department of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, one of those people who serve shall be the Head of the department. Included are field trial reports of the Nova Scotia Crop Development Institute. The field trial reports highlight information on various field crop trials with details on seeding date, date of harvest, fertilizers, field location, previous crops, management, objectives, and conclusions. Also included are the 1990 terms of reference of the Institute, list of Board of Directors and meeting minutes of monthly and annual or inaugural Board of Directors meetings from May 22, 1990 - June 5, 1992.

Composts and composting: a selective annotated bibliography of materials relevant to Canadian agriculture

Subseries contains an annotated bibliography of compost resources compiled and annotated by Lisa Simpson, Department of Biology and MacRae Library, Nova Scotia Agricultural College. It presents literature pertaining to agricultural composting as it relates to ingredients, factors, processes, and product benefits, as well as Bio-Dynamic and vermicompost methods. Specific reference is made to agricultural products, particularly animal and plant wastes. References were acquired from various academic institutions. Selection from the large volume of available composting information was based on the relevance to and usage in Canadian agriculture. Literature which did not pertain to Canadian environmental conditions, or agriculture, was excluded. Articles of special interest have been included though they do not necessarily pertain to the specified locale or to agriculture. Information included dates from 1830 to 1994. Article summaries were composed by the author. References for which a print copy was not obtained (or which an English copy was not obtained) are listed by citation only. To avoid duplication, bibliographical entries are organized into sections according to subject, listed alphabetically within subject area sections, and numbered for purposes of indexing and cross reference to other subject areas.

Subseries contains the proceedings of the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth colloquium of the Rural Research Centre of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College.
