Series contains over 200 glass negative and lantern slides photographs depict apples and orchard practice. There are also copy negatives and contact prints that were made at a later unknown date. Most of the . Notes on some of the sleeves of the negatives suggest that they date from the period 1898-1907. Fred C. Sears taught at the Horticultural School in Wolfville which operated from 1894-1904 and then took up a position as Professor of Horticulture at NSAC from 1905-1907. In 1907 he accepted a position as Professor of Pomology at the Massachusetts Agricultural College. It was there in 1914 that he wrote a textbook entitled Productive Orcharding. The book is illustrated with photographs akin to those in this collection. One photo is the same as one in the collection, but from a different angle. It seems likely that many photographs illustrating the book were taken in Nova Scotia, probably Wolfville. Sears dedicated his book to Robert W. Starr, a close friend and former president of the Nova Scotia Fruit Growers Association. Also contains: - 120 b&w 5" x 7" prints made from the glass slides, - "'An Apple a Day' : a collection of photographs" exhibit catalogue produced for a 1998 display. - A copy of the [MacRae Library] "Library Trust Fund Update", vol.9:no.1.
