Specific reference is made to agricultural products, particularly animal and plant wastes. References were acquired from various academic institutions. Selection from the large volume of available composting information was based on the relevance to and usage in Canadian agriculture. Literature which did not pertain to Canadian environmental conditions, or agriculture, was excluded. Articles of special interest have been included though they do not necessarily pertain to the specified locale or to agriculture. Information included dates from 1830 to 1994. Article summaries were composed by the author. References for which a print copy was not obtained (or which an English copy was not obtained) are listed by citation only.
