During this time he taught Animal Husbandry at the College and was one of the first to give formal lectures in Farm Management at that institution.

Trueman came to the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 1913, Truro, N.S. as Professor of Agriculture (Animal Husbandry) and Farm Superintendent, a position he filled until 1926. In 1926 he was appointed the first Director of the Extension Service and served in that capacity until he was appointed, in 1927, Principal of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Truro, N. S., a position he held until 1936.
