Collection consists of records with information about individual co-operatives and credit unions in Atlantic Canada, as well as documents from larger region-wide co-operative organizations. There is also a large section of general co-op literature about co-operation as a social movement, in Canada and around the world. There are published books, serials, brochures, reports, photographs and slides, maps, audio and visual material, and artifacts. The age of the materials ranges from the early 1900s up to 2002, the majority spans from the 1950s to the 1990s.

Charles Douglas was Deputy Minister of the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture and Marketing. Douglas also served as Assistant Agricultural Representative in Pictou, Agricultural Representative in Hants County, Assistant Director and, later, Director of Extension, and as Director of Livestock. The glass negative, lantern slides, and copy negatives and contact prints depict apples and orchard practice around the Agricultural campus and Nova Scotia. Notes on some of the sleeves of the negatives suggest that they date from the period 1898-1907.
Fonds contains correspondence from Dr. Frederick Waldemar (Waldo) Walsh to Dr. A. H. Harrington, regarding the Fruit and Vegetable Marketing Co-operative Organization in Nova Scotia in 1963. There are two series, one for certificates of Dr. Walsh, and another series for photographs taken at different events such as 4H events, Department of Nova Scotia Agriculture and Marketing conferences, retirement gatherings, and schools, while Walsh was a professor of Animal Husbandry [at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College] and sheep and swine promoter. Photos were taken and collected between 1910-1963.

He worked for the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture, the Potash Company of Canada, Canadian National Railways and for many years was Secretary / Treasurer of the Maritime Fertilizer Council.
Fonds contains a transcript of the 1969 interview with Jack Hawkins and Lieutenant Colonel A. (Arthur) W. MacKenzie, former Minister of Agriculture for Nova Scotia and a photograph of MacKenzie from 1946.
Subseries contains a collection of photographs used in the "An apple a day" exhibit held at the MacRae Library in 1998, highlighting the photographic glass slides found on campus that were believed to be taken by Fred Sears. Dr. Alex Georgallas was the acting archivist and curated the exhibit of prints of the Fred Sears glass slides. Most of the photographs center around apples and orchard practices and buildings of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. Notes on some of the sleeves of the negatives suggest that they date from the period 1906/7. It seems likely that they are connected with courses taught by Fred C. Sears at the NSAC during this period.
Fonds contains photographs of Melville Cumming, as well as addresses, research articles/manuscripts, and letters related to agriculture in Nova Scotia written by Melville Cumming. Other material consists of records that were created while Dr. Cumming served as the first principal at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College from 1905-27. He was also an instructor animal husbandry, agronomy, bacteriology and public speaking, and also served as the Secretary of Agriculture for the province from 1907-25. Includes records from 1900-1970 comprised of photographs, certificates, articles, and speeches from the passing of Dr. Cumming.
