Series contains records of the portfolios, or committees, that proposed, developed, and implemented the Federation's activities and programs. The programs and services provided by the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia are divided into categories, or portfolios. Each portfolio, headed by a member of the Executive Committee, is responsible for a different group of functions performed by the Federation.
This series contains seven sub-series: Competition and Awards Development and Administration, Promotional Programs and Public Relations, Education Programs, Professional Services, Newsletters and Library, and Development Programs.
The Competition and Awards Development and Administration sub-series contains records regarding the Atlantic Writing Competition and the various awards administered by the WFNS. These include the Evelyn Richardson Memorial Literary Award, the Thomas Head Raddall Atlantic Fiction Award, the Atlantic Poetry Prize, and the Ann Connor Brimer Award for Children's Literature.
The Promotional Programs and Public Relations sub-series contains records regarding the various programs and events held by the WFNS. These include the Annual Literary Salon and the Word on the Street Festival.
The Education sub-series contains records regarding the Writers in Residence Program, the Writers in the Schools Program, the Brown Bag Lunch Program, and classroom resource materials. Types of records include correspondence, feedback, memos, promotional material, and reports.
The Professional Services sub-series contains records regarding the services that WFNS offers to its members. These include advocacy work on behalf of members, contractual, copyright and legal advice, the Grievance Committee, market assistance, and typing and duplicating services. The types of records contained in this sub-series include correspondence, manuscripts, press clippings, press releases, reference materials, reports, and surveys.
The Publishing sub-series contains records regarding publishers, publishing agreements, and publishing programs. The types of records contained in this sub-series includes correspondence, reference material, reports, and submission guidelines.
The Newsletters and Library sub-series contains the WFNS newsletter Writers' News, (later renamed Eastword), as well as contributions, correspondence, and other materials related to the production of the newsletter. It also contains Notes from Ma Fed E-Loop, Events and Announcements, a weekly e-mail update sent to members. Correspondence, collection strategies and wish lists, and other records regarding the library are also included here.
The Development Programs sub-series contains materials regarding the Manuscript Reading Service, the Writers-in-Community Program, and various workshops, seminars, and courses held by the WFNS. The types of records include correspondence, evaluation forms, manuscripts, photographs, press clippings,

Series contains case files of the members of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia, as well as membership lists. Not every member has a case file. These membership files contain a large variety of records including biographical information, correspondence, manuscripts, and photographs.
The membership policy of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia is very broad. Anyone seriously interested in creative writing (including students and beginners) as well as accomplished professionals are eligible for membership in the Federation.
Cultural Federations of Nova Scotia

This series contains records regarding the interactions of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia with the Cultural Federations of Nova Scotia. Materials include agendas and meeting minutes, committee papers, correspondence, memos, press releases, reports, studies, and other documents.
The Cultural Federations of Nova Scotia (or CFNS) was incorporated in 1977 as an alliance of cultural disciplines. There are eight CFNS member federations: Dance Nova Scotia, Federation of Nova Scotian Heritage, The Multicultural Association of Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia Drama League, Nova Scotia Designer Craftsmen, Nova Scotia Choral Federation, Visual Arts Nova Scotia, and the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia.
CFNS was initiated to administer to the physical needs of its members, such as shared office space and equipment. It acts as a broad base of public support for arts and culture.

Series contains the administrative records of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia. The series is broken into four sub-series: General Correspondence, Funding and Financial Records, Annual General Meetings, and Records of the Executive Committee.
The General Correspondence sub-series contains copies of all outgoing correspondence of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia for a number of years. It also contains letters of general inquiry from members and non-members, the correspondence of Executive Directors, and a small number of press releases and memos. Correspondence is also present in most of the other series and sub-series in the collection.
The Funding and Financial Records sub-series contains the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia Financial Statements, yearly budgets, the records of the Federation treasurer, and records regarding fundraising and grant monies.
The Records of Annual General Meetings sub-series contains agendas, correspondence, meeting minutes, photographs, press clippings, questionnaires, and other materials regarding the Annual General Meeting. These materials also cover the planning and follow-up activities surrounding the Annual General Meeting.
The Records of the Executive Committee sub-series contains agendas, correspondence, meeting minutes, photographs, press clippings, questionnaires, and other materials created by or in regards to the Executive Committee.
