History

The Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture was established by statute in 1900. The department was not fully organized until 1930 when it absorbed parts of the former Department of Natural Resources. From 1900 to 1925 its functions were carried out by the Office of Agriculture, and from 1925 to 1930 by the Department of Natural Resources. Name changed by statute in 1939 to Department of Agriculture and Marketing, although the name change did not come into effect until December 30, 1945.
