Custodial history

This enlarged photograph (enlarged and mounted by Carsand Mosher Photographic, Truro, N.S., 1992) was given to the Sheep and Wool Museum [Agricola Archives, Zillig sheep and wool collection] by the Nova Scotia Wool Marketing Board, March 1993

Scope and content

Item is a photograph of a wool mural at the historic Barrington woollen [woolen] mill, N.S.. This mural was crafted in the early 1950's by Mrs. Murray and personnel of the provincial handcrafts department, for the Nova Scotia Exhibition in Truro. It was to demonstrate and encourage the use of Nova Scotian wool. The early settlers and some geographical features of the province are depicted. A tartan kilt was designed for the shepherd shown in the Cape Breton Highlands; this was the first public appearance of the now well known Nova Scotia Tartan.
