Leather group policy and bylaw research materials

File contains bylaws and policies from various leather groups and organizations in Ontario and Nova Scotia. Documents include Mister Leatherman Toronto Policies and Judges Handbook, National Leather Contest Rules and Requirements and the Official Contestant Packet, Logistic notes, Bylaws from the AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia, and the Constitution and Bylaws of the Ottawa Knights.

Women of Note performance

File contains one cassette tape recording of performance of the Ottawa-based choral group Women of Note. The group was a predecessor to the Halifax-based group The Secret Furies, and featured three Nova Scotian members, Anne Bishop, Barbara MacDonald, and Pat Brennan. The tape features a performance of the song This is Not a Bingo at the Women's Health Interaction fundraiser in Ottawa on April 1, 1987. The tape also contains recordings of the songs La Andina ; Divide and Rule ; Roly Poly People ; The Spelling Song ; Period Piece ; This is Not a Bingo.

Leather community materials

Series contains materials collected by Al Stewart as part of his involvement with the Halifax-based TightRope leather brotherhood, which was established in the early 1990s, incorporated in 1997, and disbanded in 2007. Series also contains materials related to the Mr. Atlantic Canada Leather [MACLeather] organization, which operated between 1999-2010, and the leather community more broadly. Materials include TightRope administrative and financial records, correspondence, and promotional materials; event cards, flyers, posters, programs, and certificates of participation for TightRope events, MACLeather contests, and leather events across Canada and the United States; photographs of TightRope meet-ups, MACLeather contests, and other leather community events; web print-outs; issues of the Phalia newsletter published by Spearhead leather and denim club in Toronto; erotic gear catalogues; and one copy of the 2002 Men of Pumpjack calendar.

Wilson Hodder photographs, correspondence, and celebration of life programs

File contains materials related to the life and passing of Wilson Hodder. Hodder was a prominent LGBT activist in Nova Scotia, who successfully petitioned for spousal survivors benefits for same-sex couples under the Canada Pension Plan following the passing of his partner, Terry Martin.

File contains 30 colour photographs taken by Hodder of the 1998 Ottawa Pride parade, three photographs of Hodder and friends, correspondence between Hodder and Mike Sangster, two copies of the program from Hodder's celebration of life, and two program inserts.

Survey of public opinion on human rights ; Gay Alliance for Equality brief to Canadian Human Right's Commission

File contains one English and one French copy of the Canadian Human Right's Commission's Survey of public opinion on human rights, one draft copy of the Gay Alliance for Equality brief to Canadian Human Right's Commission, and one pamphlet regarding filing a complaint with the Canadian Human Right's Commission.

Clippings, web print-outs, and educational resources regarding same-sex marriage

File contains clippings, web print-outs, political cartoons, and other educational resources regarding same-sex marriage collected by Ross Boutilier. Materials primarily cover the same-sex marriage debate across Canada, with stories from Nova Scotia, Montreal, and Ottawa comprising the bulk of materials. Materials also document the response to this debate from American sources and the Catholic church.

Rehearsals of "Women of Note"

Subseries contains reference materials relating to the operations of other helplines, as well as information about LGBT businesses and services, community groups, and events in Halifax, across Canada, and in the United States, Europe, Mexico, and Oceania. Materials include advertisements and press releases, pamphlets, newsletters, flyers, information sheets, and directories.

File contains materials relating to Now We Can Talk About AIDS : A First national Conference for Gaylines in Canada hosted by Pink Triangle Services, held in Ottawa from February 25-27, 1994. Materials in file include one copy of the conference agenda, one copy of official conference proceedings, associated correspondence for the aforementioned documents, two copies of a list of gaylines in Canada, two copies of a list of conference attendees, and reference materials for helpline workers.

File contains printouts from the TightRope website containing information about TightRope's purpose, membership rules and regulations, and events; two TightRope pamphlets; one certificate of participation in the McNab's Island Massacre 2000 awarded by TightRope to Mask and a thank you card from Mask; two certificate of participation awarded to TightRope by the Mr. Leather Ottawa-Hull organization for participation in their 1999 and 2001 contests; and correspondence between TightRope and Mr. Leather Ottawa-Hull.

TightRope event notices ; leather organization newsletters, correspondence, and event notices

File contains notices and flyers for events held by the TightRope Leather Brotherhood, as well as newsletters, correspondence, and event notices from other leather organizations. Materials include copies of the newsletters Smoke Signals, produced by Poconowarriors in Pennsylvania, and The Brand, produced by the Chicago Hellfire Club; correspondence, pamphlets, and registration forms from Spearhead Leather/Denim Social club in Toronto; event notices and registration forms from East Coast Bears, based in Fredricton; correspondence from the Ottawa Knights; one registration form for the Toone Towne event held by Firedancers Texas ; and notices for TightRope events held between May and August, 1999.
