Building for Dalhousie College

File contains two sheets containing drawings of a building designed to serve as Arts offices and lecture spaces before being converted to a law library and eventually to a university museum.

Blueprint construction and heating plans for Dalhousie Arts Building

File contains a set of construction and heating blueprints for the Arts Building for Dalhousie University (now the University Club), which was designed by Halifax architect Andrew R. Cobb with consulting architect Frank Darling of Toronto and engineer Charles Harrington. The file also contains an electrostatic print set reproduced on polyester, which is missing sheet no. 4.

Construction drawings for Dalhousie Arts Building

File contains an incomplete set of ink on waxed-linen construction drawings for Dalhousie University's arts building, which was designed by Andrew Cobb and Frank Darling and built in 1921 on Studley Campus. Sheet no. 5 is missing, but is extant in a set of blueprints located in Box 1, Folder 7. Sheet no. 4 is a version in pencil on tissue. Most of the drawings were made by A.M.K., traced by P.K.A., and checked by A.R.C. (Andrew Cobb).

Macdonald Memorial Library construction drawings

File contains construction drawings for the Macdonald Memorial Library (now the Macdonald Building) at Dalhousie University, which was designed by Halifax architect Andrew R. Cobb with consulting architect Frank Darling of Toronto. The bulk of the drawings are part of an original set of 16 sheets dated Dec. 20, 1913 that contain the approval signatures of G.S. Campbell, Chairman of the Board of Governors, and building contractors A.D. Falconer and D. McDonald. Sheets 8, 12 and 14 are missing, but are extant as blueprints in Box 1, Folder 2. File also contains a 1914 drawing showing revised window details and a sheet no. 6 from a 1920 alteration to the library. Drawing types include floor plans, elevations, sections and details.

Science Building construction drawings

File comprises a set of electrostatic prints on polyester of Andrew R. Cobb's architectural plans for the Science Building, dated March 31, 1913 and signed on June 2, 1913 by building contractors Falconer & McDonald and G.S. Campbell, Chairman of the Board of Governors, Dalhousie College. Drawings include floor plans, exterior and interior elevations and sections; and exterior and interior details.

File comprises blueprints of Set A, No. 12, Andrew R. Cobb's architectural drawings for the Science Building, dated March 31, 1913. File contains drawings for Peter Green Hall, labelled "Married Students Housing for Hfx Student Housing Society" on the earlier drawings. Drawings include floor plans, mechanical plans, details and specifications (1967, 1994 and 2000) and new metal siding details and elevations (1985).

Drawings for a residence for Mr. W.R. MacInnes

File contains a set of ten construction blueprints for a three-story house with six bedrooms and a maid's room, designed by Willam R. Cobb. The house was built in 1926 for William MacInnes (of W.R. MacInnes & Co, General Insurance Agents and Investment Bankers) at 18 Oxford Street, Halifax. In 1975 Dalhousie University purchased the house (then 135 Oxford Street) to convert to student housing. By 1984 the house had been replaced with a condominium complex called Oxford Court. The drawings are labelled sheets 1-10, and include plans, elevations, sections and roof details.

Central Services parkade drawings

File contains three sets of drawings for the Central Services parkade produced by Chebucto Engineering Limited Consulting Engineers, Brandys McBride Richardson Engineering, and Rendan Fabricators.

Macdonald Memorial Library construction drawings

Box contains shop drawings and rebar schedules and plans for the Life Sciences Centre at Dalhousie University, including the biology, oceanography, and psychology departments. The box also contains files with tenders, contracts, specs, and other information about the Arts and Administration Building and Gerard Hall. The specs in the box include spec IDs 89 and 72.

Photographs of Dalplex, the Life Sciences Centre, and other Dalhousie buildings

Box contains prints, slides, negatives, and proof sheets of photographs of Dalplex construction; Dalplex roof; aerial photographs of Studley Campus; signage on Studley Campus; the Life Sciences Centre; the Forrest Building; houses on Henry Street; and other buildings. Box also contains an entry for the 1980 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards by R.L. Booth of Carruthers & Wallace Limited and a presentation about stainless steel meniscus roofs. The photographs are stored in binders.

Box contains shop drawings and plans for the Life Sciences Centre at Dalhousie University. Drawings are related to fire alarms; duct and cable trays; a diesel generator; metal components; general mechanical systems; general electric and lighting systems; and other components. Plans in the box include spec IDs 80-82.

File contains 12 presentation drawings signed by Andrew R. Cobb, Architect, and dated between August and September 1921. There are six drawings of the north elevation and five of the south elevation, each featuring variations in window design, and some containing notes indicating suggestions or preferences of F.D. (Architect Frank Darling), A.S.M. (President Arthur Stanley MacKenzie) and G.F.P.

Dalhousie College — proposed new library

File contains five unsigned drawings for a proposed new library for Dalhousie College, dated almost a decade before the purchase of Studley. Drawings include a front elevation and ground floor plan in ink on waxed linen, and a less detailed front elevation, as well as floor plans for the basement, first and ground floors, in ink on paper.

Renovations and extensions to 6152 Coburg Road

File contains copies of drawings for 6152 Coburg Road, including 1967-68 plans for renovations and extensions to the building when it served as the Nova Scotia College of Art, and 1980 renovation plans when the building was occupied by Dalhousie University School of Management. All three sets of drawings were produced by C.A. Fowler Bauld & Mitchell Ltd. File also contains a list of set ID arrangement details.

'T' Building revision drawings

File contains architectural drawings for revisions to the "O" Building (Annex) at the Technical University of Nova Scotia, which were produced by the Campus Design Centre. Drawings include floor plans, sections, and details.

Blueprints for new Arts Building

File contains drawings created by Andrew Cobb for an arts building commissioned by the Board of Governors as part of their building plans during the late 1920s/early 1930s, which also included a gymnasium, power plant, men's dormitory, and extensions to the Science Building and Shirreff Hall. The planned site for the building, which was cancelled due to financial restraints, was adjacent to the temporary arts building, which had been built in 1921 to house the law school. Drawings include a preliminary sketch of the front (north) elevation; west, east, south and north elevations; skeleton section; and detailed floor plans.

Massey medals 1970

File consists of records relating to the exhibition 'Massey Medals for Architecture 1970', organized and circulated by the National Gallery of Canada. The exhibition was presented at Dalhousie Art Gallery from November 1-30, 1971.

Records consist of a condition report, exhibition agreement contract, descriptive exhibition text and packing lists, correspondence with the National Gallery, handwritten notes, and a press release from the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada (RAIC) regarding the finalists and winning entries for the Massey Medals Awards Competition.
