Scope and Content This series contains records relating to the sales and operations of the business. Some of these records include lumber surveying and supplies, scale records, market and credit reports, freight rates and circulars. A plan of a building is located in the oversize materials.
Item is a reproduction of a pastel drawing of Thomas McCulloch, the first president of Dalhousie University. The drawing was produced by Munro of Pictou, Nova Scotia. The original drawing was created by Daniel Munro in 1850, after an older drawing hanging in Wellington Presbyterian Church in Glasgow, Scotland. The drawing was given to Dalhousie as a centennial gift by Isabella McCulloch in 1939.
File contains a port clearance, correspondence, and a county rate roll for the district of Brooklyn, certificates by the Nova Scotia militia, British Order of Good Templars receipts, a notebook of Isaac V. Dexter's life addressed to L.D. Dexter.
Fonds contains music manuscripts and published scores, photographs, and autograph letters written by well-known composers such as Jacques Offenbach, Giuseppe Verdi, and John Philip Sousa. Through his work as a music critic and journalist in Toronto and Halifax, Logan communicated with many prominent Canadian musicians in the early twentieth century. Many of the scores, photographs, and autographs included in this collection are a result of his contributions to music criticism. The music and theatre programs are frequently annotated with comments for reviews, and most of his correspondence with musicians and actors relates to his work as a music and theatre critic. Some of the scores were given to Logan as gifts from performers while others were sent to him for review or publication in newspapers. There are several manuscripts of songs by Edith Jessie Archibald, a prominent social activist and suffragist in Halifax. Letters sent to Logan also concern his poetic contributions, and there is a manuscript draft of one of his books, Preludes: Sonnets and other Verses (1906).
File contains an autograph of the American composer and pianist Louis Moreau Gottschalk, addressed to Mr. L.J. List(?). Included on the page are three measures of monophonic music in G minor. This autograph would have been purchased or given to John Daniel Logan as a gift.
Series contains autographs, autograph letters, and autographed photographs. The letters were purchased by John Daniel Logan and were predominantly written by composers, including Giuseppe Verdi and Jacques Offenbach. Many of the autographs are signed on concert programs, presumably from concerts that Logan attended. The photographs are of musicians and actors, including several of the English actor Johnston Forbes-Robertson, and were sent to or obtained by Logan for his personal collection and in his capacity as a music critic and journalist.
Collection includes correspondence between Charlotte Geddie Harrington and her parents, John and Charlotte Geddie, her sisters, Lucrecia Nielson and Ula Geddie and her brother John Williams Geddie. Correspondence was written between 1853 and 1902. Collection also contains photographs of the Geddie family and missionary activities in the New Hebrides (now the nation of Vanuatu), as well as miscellaneous newspaper clippings on John Geddie and the Geddie family, 1867-1957.
Subseries contains autographs of musicians, some of which are on concert programs. These concert programs also frequently contain annotations by J.D. Logan about the music performed. Most of the autographs would have been obtained from the musician directly by John Daniel Logan, with the exception of the autograph of the American pianist and composer Louis Morceau Gottschalk (1829-1869) and that of the French operatic soprano Marie Rôze Mapleson (1846-1926).
Item is a photograph of buildings and equipment at the Dalhousie Pit in Stellarton. Acadia Coal Company opened the Dalhousie Pit on the Foord Seam in 1850. The mine was destroyed by fire in 1870. A negative is available: PC-2-318-66.
File contains photographs of Thomas McCulloch, the first President of Dalhousie University. The photographs are reproductions of drawings or paintings of McCulloch. The file also includes a very poor photocopy of a letter from Isabella McCulloch.

Fonds contains personal documents of Alexander E. Kerr, including sermons, notes, personal writings and essays, certificates and degrees, pamphlets, publications, newspaper clippings, two photographs, and minimal correspondence.
Item is a map of West Canada drawn and engraved by J. Rapkin. Illustrations on the map were drawn by H. Warren and engraved by Robert Wallis. The map was published in J. & F. Tallis' Illustrated atlas, and modern history of the World in 1851.
